Hurricane Irene..

We were without power, just south of Raleigh, for 23 fuging hours... That is ridiculous...

By comparison, we heard from our campground supervisor down in Holly Ridge... which is a little north of Wilmington... They were without power for 8 hours... Sounds like everything is alright down there though, although I did get a notification that we had some of the plastic skirting that attaches to the underside of our camper blown away... I'll have to fix that, but hopefully that was the worst of our damages... I'll find out Wednesday night, I suppose...

Don't get me wrong... I was prepared to deal with it just fine here... Fired up the generator and kept the fridge and freezer running 9 out of those 23 hours (turned off the genny to let it rest a few hours in between), as well as the TV, the cable box, the surround sound, and anything else that was plugged into the surge protector in our living room... We grilled some burgers and cooked some hot dogs, and just hung around the house most of the time... The wind kept it pretty breezy and cool in the house until late afternoon when it just died... Then the humidity kicked back in and the temperature rose... Showered in the light of a lantern, and went to bed a little early in the dark, silent house...

I did nothing but bitch and whine. Not gonna lie. I even woke my hubby up at 5 am this morning to whine and bitch about being hot.

Honestly, if EVERYGODDAMNBODYELSE around us hadn't have had lights, I wouldn't have bitched. There were 59 of us on about a 3/4 mile stretch without, while other people in the community got theirs back within a couple of hours.

Oh I was going to add...

When we got the tv and everything hooked up to the generator, I was flipping through the news channels to see the reports...

Color me unsurprised when I flipped to Fox News and the headline caption on the bottom of the screen read "North Carolina Orders More Body Bags"...

lol, smh...

As I figured, not nearly as bad for us as the media would have us believe.

They should be ashamed. Scaring people into thinking this is a bad one will only reinforce the idea they people shouldn't leave when a real one comes through.

I agree... I think the media did a great disservice to the public with all the hype over this storm.
