May I throw out Sammy's(Avent Ferry) or The Brickhouse(Hillsborough) as suggested meeting spots? I prefer places I can walk home from drunk. Although I have stumbled drunkenly home a few miles from downtown before.....

Backyard Bistro isn't far from Brickyard. It's just across from Carter Finley.

You know, I've driven by it many a time but never actually been there. Food/beer rating, IYO?

I've drank there a few times, they have a decent beer selection, nothing special. I don't think I've ever eaten there. I assume it's basically the same type of food as any other sports bar.

Sounds like everybody's pretty settled on Backyard Bistro. There are free Wolfline buses from there to just about anywhere in west Raleigh, Sammy's area included.
