Newton starter vs Bengals, Week 1 starter TBD

It seems to me that unless Newton throws more than one int interception and can't settle down in the red zone- he's starting. The press is reporting the coaching staff is impressed with his learning curve and he the freakin number draft choice....not to mention the ticket sales.

I'm too lazy to look it up , but hasn't Newton pretty much spent the last couple years walking on to new teams? He's not like Clausen in that way, It appears the kid likes the challenge and can recover from poor plays...

Not to mention that this may be the first time he called the plays from the huddle...and I haven't seen any issues with him doing that, even with an short call list.

It Newton's to lose, and with some game time action under his belt, I don't see him getting worse...

what the old saying in baseball?..two players run to first base, both have the same split time but one is fundamentally sound and the other is not...who do you want on your team? the one that can improve...

I hear people keep talking about Cam helping ticket sales. You do realize that with PSL's, there are only about 3,000 tickets for any given game that is available for sale to the public.

Ticket sales is a non issue in Charlotte.

It appears the same people who didn't want us to draft Cam in the 1st place are the most vocal in opposition of him being the starting QB at the start of the season, kind of funny how that worked out isn't it?

thanks for that nugget of wisdom Captain Obvious.

Summary....those who did not want Cam still don't want him. Those that loved Cam still love him.

Kind of funny how you think this is some great deduction of logic that you had.

Did Moore earn the boos with his proven play in the NFL in game 2 of his tenure?

Fans don't know poo and everyone knows they just want to see their shiny new toy on the field.

Clausen could go 100/100 100,000 yards, 100 TDs in the first 2 games but if we lose to AZ and are down to GB, you know he'll hear it.

They probably want to start Cam so they don't have to damage Clausen any more in case Cam gets hurt. If you start him for a game, bench him, then need to bring him back, it's hard to recover.

Clausen has made just as many downfield throws as Cam, so lets not pretend Cam is airing it our every play.

you can go to a Colts game and find retards booing Manning after a pick....I don't recall BOA being filled w/ boos for Moore in week 2.

and if Clausen did that it would be considered a fluke performance. That is what 1 great game is considered when you put slop out there every other Sunday.

If you can't tell the difference between what Cam is looking to do vs. Clausen in terms of where to throw the ball.....AGAIN....it is only b/c you a commited to being a troll on this topic.

Yeah Moore did get booed. When the team doesn't move or score and the game is boring people will boo.

I think you have to take the number draft QB, it's just too much to give up and Newton ( rookies don't have first names..lol) has shown an ability to function w/o a normal training camp... but really, we're going to run first aren't we? go vertical once in while and dump to RB and T/Es a bunch....

I'm more concerned about our O line and getting some yards on the ground or none of this QB crap matters..ball possession/ yards after contact and screens would keep our D off the field..the D looked gassed in Miami, even for a preseason game. I trust Shula to bring the QBs up to speed as we pound the ball in the first three games...passing will take time, but to win out out of the gate- run it baby...how about some option plays...;)

any concerns about our rushing ability? I hope to see some physical down hill yards this week... and then any of the QB's can be a hero

1.5 games....that's how long QBs get here?

To have poor play booed? Yeah....Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Freeman, etc can get away with more stuff. Matt Moore? Moore ain't the type QB who can lay an egg and come out slow the next week and not hear anything.

If you are proven stud or a rookie.....you get away with more. 4 yr vets in the NFL who haven't really done anything don't get tons of wiggle room.

Moore shouldn't of been booed and if he was booed it wasn't like the caliber of a "We want Carr" chant for example Alex Smith got last year. But bad play gets booed when it carries over....

Fox should of been booed. Not Moore. Moore should of been on the shelf for one week.

.....

Moore shouldn't of been booed....

Well now I'm confused.

Bottom line is Cam is going to get special treatment no matter how good or bad he is because of his status as a #1 pick. He will either hold this franchise hostage for 3-4 years or make us contenders in 3-4 years.

Either way, he will play out his contract as the starter and it won't ever be in doubt.

Sorry for being confusing.

I was just stating what occurs in the NFL stadiums.

Not that I agree with it.

---------------

Cam won't hold us hostage like former #1 overall picks have done if they flop......the new rookie deal came at the perfect time. Another reason gambling on someone with Cam's upside made sense......you didn't invest Sam Brandford's money into it.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
