Newton starter vs Bengals, Week 1 starter TBD

I just want to see how the offense is going to look with a gameplan and our starters back. All Jake used to do is throw it up and Steve would go get it. I want to see Cam develop that kind of chemistry with Steve. Even if there is going to be some struggles it's going to be fun watching us attempt to win again.

Responding to what he wanted to hear.

My hatred for Clausen runs far deeper than any perceived hatred for Cam and it's really not close.

I literally "hate" everything about Clausen, I only "hate" Cam's ability to play football at the NFL level right now.

although I strongly believe ur hate for Cam is very misguided and easy because of the media's dislike for Cam, I understand ur pain after doing my homework on your favorite.

glad you agree. ;)

actually I don't think he's been all that poor, but we can consult rivera for what problems Cam has (strangely they sound a lot like what some of us are saying, but what can we say, Rivera's just a hater):

Quote:

Coaches also want to see Newton improve his mechanics. The 6-5 right-hander completed 7 of 14 passes for 66 yards in the first half at Miami, but completed only one throw to a wideout and consistently misfired on longer passes.

But Rivera said he thought Newton made good decisions against the Dolphins.

“The next part is delivering the ball on time, hitting the receiver in stride,” he said.

Mav tried to pull a fast one. Here's a better source:p

Rivera:"The thing he has got to continue to do is he has got to make good decisions. We had an opportunity to break the tape down and really saw some good things. It didn't show, obviously, but the biggest thing was he was making good decisions. Any time you see the guy make the decisions that you're supposed to make, the next part of it is delivering the ball on time, the next part of it is hitting the receiver in stride. His big thing that has to improve is his mechanics, and that is one thing that has actually been surprisingly good. I think that's the one thing he's getting better at. If you put the tape on and watch his mechanics from the game to what it was our first day of camp, you would go, "Wow." That was one of the nice things talking to (quarterbacks coach) Mike Shula about him was that mechanically he has gotten better. There is a lot of promise. What we need to see though is consistency, also."

Blame Joe Person if you think I "pulled a fast one", but you might want to actually read what I quoted first. There's no fast one, dude. Re-read what you pasted and what I had. It's amazing how when you just bold poo in a paragraph it can look like you have something totally different when you actually have the same stuff.

Highlights from yours:

-Rivera: Big thing he has to improve is his mechanics. He's been getting better at it.

-Rivera: He made good decisions.

-Rivera: Next thing is to deliver the ball on time, hit receivers in stride.

-Shula: Mechanically he's gotten a lot better. There is a lot of promise.

Joe Person:

-Rivera: Big thing he has to improve is his mechanics.

-Rivera: He made good decisions.

Wow, that's strikingly different! It's almost as if... the quotes are from the same presser, just laid out differently! :O

You know what it means when people say "He's showing a lot of promise and he's improving"? It means he has a lot to work on still, which is what I've seen saying all along, and what the story Person wrote said. There's a lot to be optimistic for with Cam, but don't be a dick. The coaches think he has a lot to work on because he does. That doesn't mean he's a bad player or anything, it just means he's a rookie...

Cam is waaaaaaay ahead of schedule. It was supposed to take him 2-3 years to grasp our offense and see the field. For him to be this comfortable this early is AMAZING! A new era has begun!

2-3 years to see the field? What? He was going to play his rookie year even if he stunk. I agree he's ahead, but you thought we were going to have him benched for 3 years? Why?

First, you quoted it like Rivera is saying the same thing yall are saying, nope. I haven't heard none of yall "haters" say his mechanics are improving or he makes good decisions. Just because he says he's showing promise and is improving doesn't mean he has a lot to work on. Throwing off the backfoot yea that's a lot of problems:rolleyes:I know he's not fully developed, but you, trd, and others have been making him sound like he's the worst QB in the class since he declared. I'm not being a dick either just trying to make sure Rivera's words are heard clearly;). Second, everybody and their mother was on here screaming Cam is a project and will need at least 2-3 years including you.

Mav, you and I both know there were plenty of people on here pre-draft saying Cam wouldn't be ready for 2 or 3 years.

While reasonable people knew that was not reality, many held that position.

And yes, you are correct that he was destined to see the field at some point this year no matter how bad he might play.
