Perspective from Miami game

You're kidding right?

tis true, really. Cam is much stronger than Clausen, and while I don't think he will be able to bowl over people in the NFL like he did in college (Dolphins already proved that), he certainly can use his abilities to occasionally juke rushers etc... something I don't think Clausen can really do.

not that you need to be able to carry defenders on your back to play QB in this league. Brady and Manning tend to go down the second a defender puts a hand on them in most games (probably to avoid injury?)

Not saying he isn't a better athlete, just saying that the "superior" in front of it may be a stretch.

"Superior" isn't a stretch. It is an understatement.

I get it that you like Jimmy. Call him more accurate (so far), call him more experienced, but to say these guys are even in the same ballpark as far as athleticism is ludicrous.

And you do realize there is more to mobility and athleticism than straight line speed, right?

While I like to read your blogs I thought I would play devils advocate to this article for the fun of it and to also point out some things, that in my mind, you are over looking.

1) The superior athlete: How can any of us know this yet? We watched him in college and he looked OK but as we saw this past week his superior athletic ability still netted no first downs using his legs...he was also tackled pretty easily by much smaller corner backs on his runs. Superior athlete? Maybe, but it's way to early to tell that IMO.

Just to throw stats and video like you did...here ya go

40 times:

Jimmy - 4.76

Cam - 4.59

Not that much of a difference

Jimmy can must certainly keep drives alive same as Newton. Also, Jimmy doesn't have the "zip" that Cam does, but to say he has none at all is a little...

2. “The Roethlisberger Factor”: See video above.

3. Velocity: As stated above Cam has move velocity but I think I would rather have a lower velocity and not dig worm holes. Velocity means nothing at all when you can't hit the broad side of a barn 3/5 passes.

4. Confidence: I don't know about this one but I do think that with everything going on around Jimmy with the fans, media, players etc...he has handled it like a pro...to me that screams confidence and he welcomes the challenge

5. No need to delay the inevitable: While this may be true from 2008 - 2010; if you dig a little deeper you will find that there are SEVERAL number 1 picks that yet to become anything in the league and spent most, not all, of their time backing someone up until eventually exiting the league.

Again, nice write up, look forward to reading future blogs.

Superior athlete = 50 total TD's in the SEC.

"Smaller" corners in the NFL still have unreal explosion and power and leverage to make tackles regardless of size of the ball carrier. Sometimes they miss...sometimes they make the tackle

This is evidence to me that you have never played a competitive team sport beyond the age of 8. Have you any idea how awesome it is for a guy who is 6'5 250 lbs to run a 4.5??????????? hmmm a 4.5 to a 4.7....you obviously have never run a 40 against someone...the difference here is finishing a good 3 full strides ahead of the other runner...which is a lot of distance in a 40

Velocity means you can fit the ball into tighter windows...in between defenders....instead of throwing a duck in there and having it knocked down or picked off. Im pretty sure he can make the passes..

I don't know about you guys, but after watching that video of Jimmy, he just doesn't even look like the same player in a Panthers uniform. I won't pretend to be smart enough to know why, but he looks like a shell of "college Jimmy." Not sure if it is the speed of the game, something in his mind, or what it is, but that isn't the same guy. Jimmy had (excuse this) swag in a ND uniform and he looks scared lots of times to me now.

Both are Panthers QBs so I most certainly wish both success.

Cam is the superior athlete, there is no comparison. Not even sure why we are discussing that one.

The Ben Factor: Cam is not Ben. He may be better, may not, we obviously don't know. But as stated earlier he made the first defender miss on both Giant sacks, had there not been other defenders there to clean up. Jimmy, as we saw last season was quick to fold at the sight of a large defender coming his way.

I think the velocity between the two is comparable. Cam has an edge but Jimmy HAS velocity, but for some reason he is gun shy. He doesn't let go and sling it like he did in college.

I've already touched on the confidence. Cam has it. IMO Jimmy HAD IT, might still be there somewhere, but for now it is gone.

We also have to look at this not only in a strictly physical and mental Cam vs. Jimmy competition, but also take the playbook into account. Now, both have had the same time to learn the playbook so one can believe they are roughly on the same pace as far as mastering it. What we cannot forget is Clausen's unwillingness to throw the damn ball downfield and less of an ability to make plays with his legs (whether that be designed runs, the occasional option, or lengthening plays with his legs on a regular basis) could be handcuffing Chud's play calling. IMO that is a huge factor.

And while I certainly respect the blogger's choice to leave fans out of his synopsis and analysis it is a REALITY that a now invigorated franchise with a breath of fresh air would be deflated if we started Jimmy over Cam after Cam has by most accounts either met or exceeded reasonable training camp expectations.

What do you think was the biggest cause of us getting run all over by Reggie Bush? I say we should start Fua and McClain with Hardy and CJ... that is where we should build our defensive foundation. We already have a top 2 or 3 LB corps in the entire NFL... I say we give the rookies the reigns at DT.
