Rivera should hit the brakes on picking QB

So ur saying that if it was someone else playing besides Cam, the game would have been a different outcome?

As far as tonight's game, Derek probably would have looked better than Cam, but the whole team struggled tonight. Here's one thing we know for sure, with Derek in there, we don't have to worry about him having any kind of miscommunications because he knows the playbook. (Unless the receiver messes up, then there will be a miscommunication:D )

I say start the guy who give you the best chance of winning, and right now that may be Derek Anderson.

And here come the excuses....

I don't see why there has to be excuses, or bashing, or anything.

Cam looked like a promising, developing, rookie QB this evening.

I think the fact that not everything that went wrong was his fault, should be encouraging, not a reason for people to act hostile.

Like I said, Rivera just came out tonight and said it's going to be between Clausen and Newton; "They are our future" as he put it.

Go show me the tapes cause from what I've known, he struggled just like all the other rookies. Setting records don't mean not struggling.

Sam Bradford struggled his preseason but he was named rookie of the year last season.

dude what are you even talking about... of course Manning had things to learn... I don't even know if you can find clips from Manning's rookie season on the internet but he looked pretty damn good. You can't compare how manning looked as a rookie to how cam looks now for a variety of reasons ... cam is coming from much further back... he will be fine, but he's no peyton manning (and he doesn't need to be to be a winner and a great player here). but just because cam is a rookie doesn't mean we have to act like he had a great game tonight. he wasn't good but it was a "teaching moment"

sam bradford wasn't going to start until their veteran went down with an injury...

if cam isn't ready, don't start him. don't force him into a game when he has the kind of problems he does with footwork. he needs a ton of practice to replace his bad habits.

It's hard to compare the 2 QBs tonight. Cam ran against the 'phins 1st team defense and Jimmy ran against the phins 2nd & 3rd team. Jimmy had a little time in the pocket, Cam had zero time in the pocket.

Jimmy was also in there with OUR 2nd and 3rd string players, it showed in the o-line (not that our starting line was any better). It's not as if he was in the exact personnel as Cam was.

Youve missed my point. Both Jimmy and Cam are lacking in qualities to be named starter AT THIS POINT. It's not prudent to name either one of these unproven kids a starter after 2 preseason games. Do you understand now?

Actually, I do understand and I too wanted Cam to sit for at least a year but the rational given for wanting Cam to sit by some is really funny.

Unfortunately, he'll be sitting behind someone who is no better than him. How is he going to learn and what is he going to learn?

Judging by the fact that many of the criticism coming against Cam seems very anal, and a bit over scrutinizing, I say start the kid. If Cam was Andrew Luck playing like he did, many would have been screaming for Rivera to start him. Especially since he hasn't upchucked all over the field like many rookies.

Cam is going to win some and lose some. For folks to believe he has to win everytime he touches the ball is ridiculous.

I can understand if he went out and fumbled the ball all over the place but folks are freaking out over any little thing they cany find that isn't perfect about Cam. Like seriously, how was Cam's footworks helping an offense that barely showed up to play? And a defense that sucked.

If it's a true competition, it's Jim.

If it's what most of us expected, a lie, it's Cam.

Didn't mean to pie you *doh*

Who is lying? Rivera? And Clausen isn't so far ahead of Cam. And seeing that is has been as close as it has been, then when you figure that Cam is the worst he will ever be and neck and neck with Jimmy I think you can very easily make the decision to go with Cam.

Cam will get his chance he was a #1 pick, relax he's not ready for this offense just yet, at this point the other two are better... it will take some time.

uhh how is he going to learn?

are you really asking that? do you actually think that young quarterbacks always learn from the person starting in front of them?

I guess we should fire Shula and just let our guys figure it out on their own...

also if andrew luck played like cam newton i'd say sit him until he fixed his footwork up a bit. he'll be great in time but that time is not now.

Like I said, Rivera just came out tonight and said it's going to be between Clausen and Newton; "They are our future" as he put it.

My question would be, why is he so bound by these two when it would be perfectly alright for both of them to carry a clipboard for the first couple of games? The problem with this is that Cam Newton is not ready to carry a team on his shoulders. Yet at the same time, Jimmy sees two Asomugha clones on the field everytime he snaps the ball (hence why he leads the league in checkdowns).

So in conclusion, Newton is better than Clausen, yet Newton is not ready to carry the team. What Rivera fails to understand is that he has a vet QB on his bench, who knows the offense and had success before, just sitting there. It makes all the sense in the world to start him over these young guys.
