Rivera should hit the brakes on picking QB

Also for those who haven't been paying attention; Anyone who credits themselves with knowledge within the organization was saying all along Cam just had to show was that the game wasn't too big for him and he'd have the job. Sure I would have hoped he would have played out of this world but he certainly didn't crumble under the pressure.

It's hard to compare the 2 QBs tonight. Cam ran against the 'phins 1st team defense and Jimmy ran against the phins 2nd & 3rd team. Jimmy had a little time in the pocket, Cam had zero time in the pocket.

While you can't compare them, you could factor in tonights game with last weeks game and recent practices... I don't think he'd decide based on tonight alone even if one had been spectacular, but it may have tipped him in one direction or the other.

The fact that he is the QB of the future is exactly why you don't rush him. You run the risk of ruining a player by putting him in as a rookie too early.

The moment his footwork is brought up to NFL caliber we insert him, but putting him in before that can make it worse.

Someof you Panther fans kill me. You all sitting there freaking out about every in regards to Cam. Yes, let's fix everything that is wrong with Cam even though it's clear that the lost tonight has not a damn thing to do with Cam but the entire team.

Meantime in Jacksonville, Blaine is not that much better than David Garrard but all the fans are behind him and want him to start game 1. Go figure..The real power behind the build up of preception vs. reality

Like Rivera, but naming a starting QB after 2 preseason games with these two at the the helm is misguided. It's not like he's choosing bt Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. These two are inexperienced/damaged goods, and both of them need as much pt before ANY decision is made. After tonight, if you're gonna name a starter, it's DA.

Jimmy's had one year starting in the NFL, which shows. He seems to be better than last year. But checking down will not lead to wins. Although I did see more deep balls from him tonight.

I still think Cam should start at this point. I just wish he'd stop smiling like he's playing in a celebrity charity game. Where's his game face??[/QUOTE]

Maybe that's it...

Damn criticizing the kid for enjoying what he does for a living. And showing a serious face but not giving a damn means what?

Some of you guys are killing me.

First of all, why should Rivera 'just choose'? There are 2 more preseason games. He doesn't need to let them fight it out in the regular season.

Jimmy is a pussy? How was he being a pussy? -.- He took shots downfiled, he stepped up into the pressure, he ran when there was nothing given to him... Seriously, how was he a pussy? Some of you guys just have a huge bias against Jimmy. You see what you want to see.

Derek Anderson? Really? You guys do realise that the only reason to start a vet is if he gives you the best chance to win right? He's 3rd on the depth chart for a reason. Yes he knows the system, yes he's been around, that doesn't mean that he doesn't suck.

I still say start Derek Anderson in the third preseason game, let's see if he still has anything left in the tank. I mean, they brought him in to be a mentor. Earlier in the week I heard that isn't going to well, and tonight we saw the fruit of his mentorship. So if he isn't doing a good job there, he is basically wasting a roster spot. Throw him in there and see what he's got, if not, release him already.

I don't need to see anymore game film on Clausen, he is simply not good. There are only two QBs in the league that are worse than Clausen. They are Curtis "I should have been a" Painter, and Todd "all I do is throw interceptions" Collins. So Clausen is no longer worth to talk about when it comes to starting. Cam Newton could start, but he won't get very far if he can't do any better than what he's showed us. Put in Mr. Anderson.

So ur now comparing two vets to a kid that's a rookie...WOW... How was Peyton his rookie season?

So ur saying that if it was someone else playing besides Cam, the game would have been a different outcome?

Yep, after four weeks of practice with not OTA, Cam needs to go cause he isn't lighting it up everytime he touches the ball. His footworks such and he is always doing something that annoys us. In the meantime, other rookie QBs weren't doing any better at this junction of their career with even more time to prepare.

Who couldn't see this level of unrealistic thinking coming.

Youve missed my point. Both Jimmy and Cam are lacking in qualities to be named starter AT THIS POINT. It's not prudent to name either one of these unproven kids a starter after 2 preseason games. Do you understand now?
