Rivera should hit the brakes on picking QB

One of you Cam nut-huggers

You obviously don't read my posts.

Cam NEEDS to be ready, 100%, before you throw him out there

Bullsh*t, the team needs its best option to win. Point blank, period.

If Rivera believes Cam is the better option, he will start. You would like Cam to be the 'perfect' Quarterback, but the likelihood of any rookie player playing 100% is low.

Matt Ryan was by no means perfect in his rookie season. However, he was surrounded by great offensive talent, and still played marginally well.

Get over yourself.

Cam has played well so far, there is no reason to possibly make him regress by just straight throwing him to the wolves.

Nonsense, Tennessee played the same song with Vince & Kerry and still got positive results. If Cam is absolutely shell shocked if/when he starts, he'll need to be pulled.

But given on how solid he's looked as a pocket passer, with only one true workable flaw -- his footwork. I see no such thing happening to him.

If I remember correctly, Clausen didn't light it up last pre-season, but he did play respectably.

If by respectively you mean throwing picks, checking down, and taking sacks? then sure he did.

Which obviously translated into how he played during the regular season.

The fact is this... Clausen has not convinced anyone that he is ahead of Newton. This thread would not exists if that were the case. So what some want is for a 2nd year QB that has not out shined a Rookie to take the field. That is just stupid if you ask me. Cam is going to stumble and fall but he will learn and should be allowed to under the helm.

To be honest I much rather have Anderson start then Clausen, because at least we know he can be a Pro bowl QB. The only thing we know about Clausen is that he can go 1-16 and not beat out a Rookie.

...Who is learning as he goes and only been with his team for maybe four weeks.

As I've stated before, it's clear some Panther fans have set the bar ridiculously high for Cam, for whatever reason; while also setting the bar very low for Clausen. Cam has to be perfect as a rookie in very little time and with very little training but Clausen just as to not mess up too badly.

IMO, Rico is right. QB that gives us the best chance to win should start. I think that's Clausen. I do think it might be Newton later in the season, but for now, I think it's Clausen. I don't think that is all that is going into the decision. There is much more going into this decision.

I also think it helps rookies to sit but that's a discussion for another thread.

edit: why are we saying Clausen went 1-16 again? also, why should he beat out a rookie if the rookie is ready to start? this is all so circular, it's like we're back to pre draft days.

Doesn't make a difference if he picks the starter now or after the final preseason game. Both of them are getting a roughly equal amount of reps, and both will continue to get equal amounts regardless of who starts. They should both be prepared to be the starter.

As far as who should start, neither looks to be world beaters. I hope the run game will be ready in game one. We are going to need it, although I do feel that we already look better than last season.

lol............no need to get all pisshitty bro.

You said that Cam should get the start and if he can't deal with the pressure then Rivera should pull him.

That is a perfect way to totally fug up a young QB.

First off, you are throwing him into a situation that he is not ready for and then you are going to ruin his confidence by pulling him. Especially in this day and age of "instant media".

You say that the team needs its "best option to win".......why? We are looking at a team that has some promise, but needs a DB, a #2 WR, DT, RG (RT?), and a compliment to CJ. So why do we need to throw our 1st round pick QB into the mix and tell him that we need to win now?

Again, our week 1 starter is more about whether or not Cam is ready. If the coaching staff feels Cam is ready, he's our guy, if not, Clausen get's the nod. There's no QB competition going on, this is solely based on whether or not Cam is ready.

Couldn't agree more.

If you think that Cam Newton looked more comfortable and in sync with the offense over Jimmy you are about as smart as the grass they play on. Cam is a great college football quarter back as far as NFL no Jimmy is a more pro style friendly and BETTER quarterback than Cam can ever be in the NFL. Jimmy will be the starter and its not sad, just because he didn't go number one overall doesn't mean he cant be a solid player. do you need any examples for good players who didn't got number one, Kurt Warner, Terrel Owens, Tom Brady a sixth round draft pick who has won four Super Bowls, so shut up about how Jesus like Cam Newton is and actually watch both quarterbacks with the intent to support your panthers.

hello charlie weis.
