Official Preseason Game 2: Panthers vs Dolphins Thread

There you go....A person who feels Cam has to play lights out after four weeks of TC or he's "aweful."

"aweful"?

there are plenty of people who are overreacting to this, but there were plenty of people who overreacted to his last preseason game... in the opposite direction in some ways... it's ok, just ignore them and it'll pass.

After the Fox and Rip Sherer era I'd about say the same for Jimmy.

I give Jimmy some slack for that, but he played in a pro-style offense in college and he does have 10 starts under his belt in the NFL, so I would start Cam unless Jimmy can really distance himself and so far he hasn't.

It was discouraging to see the just short of the sticks pass. i wish they had smith in. also where was olsen? and why did they pull the starting d line in the 1st quarter?

I agree I'd rather see an incomplete pass BEYOND the first down mark than a completed pass where the guy gets molested 2-4 yards short of the marker.

None of the DL was doing anything, but they have to protect what we actually do have along the line because as this game showed we have 0 depth along the line.

Yes, they took away the running game and called a passing game right? Tell me what you saw. I could be wrong I guess. But I think they put the pressure on Cam with the calls. He didn't melt but didn't shine either.

You pretty much nailed it on the head. There were like 6 runs iirc for the entire half. You also have to factor in the Time of Possession disparity.

The NFL (like the NBA) is a game of rhythm. You can't have the ball for like 5-6 minutes compared to the opposing team's 20+ and expect to move the ball with effectiveness.

Not trying to cover Cam with the rookie blanket, he didn't shine in his opportunity to start.

But the playcalling was just as bad.

what a lot of us have to remember is that they weren't particularly trying to win this game, they were trying to see who stepped up to the plate at key positions... WR, CB, DT. That's why this game we saw a decent number of starters pulled early at certain positions on the D-Line.

I pretty much saw us trying to run early and going away from it to see how Cam can handle playing from behind. I think they tried to open the offense up more like it was in the last preseason game to see how he could do with his arm.

Just didn't turn out very well considering the line, our WRs, and the young QB.

edit: We ran on the first two drives, we just got no yardage at all, and remember, the Fins DOMINATED the time of possession, so...

I missed first few drives (thankfully i guess) so its nice to hear we tried to run, but I agree with the bold part 100%.

The way some people in this fanbase react to things makes John Fox look smart in sticking with Jake Delhomme so long. If you are going to play the qb that gives you the best chance to win but he happens to be young and inexperienced, you got to be willing to take the lumps. Some people just dont want to do that, Cam is gonna have growing pains whether he plays now or sits and plays later.

Just one bad game. But it was bad. Only positives are ST play and no one got seriously injured.

We probably do need to pick up a vet DT. I feel confident we will on waiver wire and def pick up a CB on waivers. I have faith in Rivera and McDermitt on defense.

Offense again still comes down to QB play. Dolphins do have good defense but they showed no respect to passing game. Smitty will help and TE's will ensure we won't be as bad as last year, but we need a #2 to step up. Not sure it's going to happen. And I have some confidence in O line, but who knows when the right side is out.

No reason to give up on team, but we're not going to be world beaters this year. We can be competitive, but we weren't tonight.

Need a good showing in Cincy, and we will gameplan. Rivera may have to backtrack on declaring starter. Jimmy is status quo, but not sure that Cam is ready.

Very tough order for any rookie QB to be ready to start Week 1, but especially because of lost time with lockout.

I know we all want to believe Cam is the exception, but he is going to struggle. Doesn't mean he won't be great. I think he will. Just not yet

I for one don't know the best route to take week 1. Tonight surely didn't answer that.

I dont get how Cam was awful

Vick was awful

Cam played well for a rookie QB in his 2nd game/1st start. I'm encouraged by the fact that he isn't making big mistakes or abandoning the pocket the moment there is any kind of pressure or his 1st read isn't there.... that represents a tremendous amount of progress for a kid coming from a spread run-option offense.

I think the Panthers want to start Cam and he hasn't given them any reasons not to.

well Dwill ran 3 times in 2 drives... we were pretty close to running 50% on 1st/2nd down, but we just didn't generate yards, forced ourselves into third and long.

then we were down by 10 pts, and with the offense really having no rhythm, I think they tried to open it up a bit for Cam through the air and we just looked even worse.

i dunno man, I feel like it was damned if you do, damned if you don't. Our running game was not generating yards, whereas Cam was picking up first downs with his arm once in a while, and we were down by 10... so they went ahead and saw what Cam could do if they aired it out more.
