On ESPN First Take, the fans voted for them to discuss "Will Cam Newton turn this Panthers Around". It was discuss on 4th Down portion on their 1st and 10 segment. Jamele started off by saying that he has the potential to be this years Sam Bradford. Both Michael Smith and Jamele Hill agreed that he will turn the franchise around that he will energize the team and that we should win about 6 games this year. Michael Smith also said that we aren't as bad as our 2-14 record of last year. They also feel that he needs to work on his accuracy issues. Michael Smith also stated that Cam reminds him of Vince Young when he came out college in that he wasn't pretty but he knew how to win. They both didn't feel that Clausen is the answer and starting him will lead to drafting a number 1 draft pick again. I feel this coaching staff alone makes us a better team and I hope that they will be able to keep these guys hungry and humble and not get caught up with all the media hype that they have received.

a couple advantages that newton has over VY is that he 1) has his head on straight and is and can handle criticism better and 2) he is in a less dysfunctional situation than VY was.

he should have more success. i will say that if newton can come close to VY's rookie season as far as success is concerned i will be most happy.

I hate the Cam Newton = Vince Young comparison. Don't get me wrong, I get it, but I don't like it.

I do agree w/ them if we sit him this year and start Clausen we are in the Luck race.....start Cam and we aren't.

I think the VY and Vick comparisons are fair b/c there are clear traits about his game he shares w/ them. Russell is just a lazy comparison. Just b/c there are comparisons to be made doesn' t mean there aren't clear differences.

Never seen a QB to date play as well under pressure/the media's eye as Newton in college. His physical skill set also hasn't been seen

IMO, I believe this whole VY is "dysfuntional ish" is ridiculous. Everyone handles pressure differently. That doesn't make them dysfunctonal just because the media said so. Carson Palmer showed his immaturity by pouting and demanding to be traded. No one in the media labeled him as dysfunctional or immature.

Anyway, unlike a lot of these QBs who are treated like rock stars in college, Cam felt the wrath of the media at the peak of his success in college and handled it with grace and class. And during the draft season had to endure ridicule and stereoptyical accusations and he rised above that also.

Does that make him better than VY, or any of the QBs? Maybe, maybe not..But as they say, the true test of a man's character isn't when things are going well but when they are not. And so far Cam has proven the ability to handle adversity very well. I hope it continues cause what doesn't break u really does strengthens you.

Cam Newton = Black QB = He will be a mix of Vince Young, Jamarcus Russell, and Mike Vick

Something tells me if there were more successful black QBs in the NFL then whites and Cam was white, he'd be compared to them because everyone knows that psychologically, you comparing someone to the best, paints them as the best, even if it's not reality. Hence the fact that during the draft Blaine Gabbert was always being compared to Sam Bradford and Matt Sanford, even thou he had no background to back it up.

I'm seriously not buying the "it's obvious, what do u expect" excuse. Those in the media r way to smart for that.

I don't agree with the "Cam can turn around Panthers" talk. Quarterback play was really bad last year but the injury bug hit the team pretty hard. With a healthy team, Cam can HELP turn the teams record around from last season. As a healthy team the Panthers are a very competitive, something they were not last season.

injury bug wasn't as bad as some hype it.

Look at how Matt Moore came in at the end of 2009 (with a comparable injury bitten team).....and rolled. QB easily the biggest problem. You could of given Clausen a 100% healthy team and there was little suggest that would have made much of a difference.
