The Steve Smith Effect

We all know Smitty is starting this preseason game (and hopefully getting some playing time). Of course he didn't play with Jimmy (or Cam) last week. I really don't know how any of Jimmy's drives would have turned out with Smith out there. Then again, he wasn't out there either when Cam was out there.

My question is how much of an impact will he have on the QB competition? I feel it may skew the competition towards Cam, especially if Rivera and Chud feels the need to limit him and with Cam starting. I'm almost certain tho that Smitty will be out there for some of Jimmy's drives as well. He could make either QB look good.

Also, does he play the entire half, just for the sake of fairness and familiarity with the QB's?

Cam didn't get to play the 2nd quarter w/ the starting OL last week....only a single drive.

In reality, the "battle" will most likely set up to give Clausen an edge bc if he plays the same time Cam did last week....he will be doing a bigger portion of it w/ starters in comparison to Cam last week.

Smitty will play as long as the starting unit plays IMO.

We'll see how Cam looks with some good receivers tonight! Excited about that... I'm confident he'll look better than he did against NY.

It's a given that the OL will be the single biggest determinant in the success of either Cam or Jimmy. Both have to stay upright, and both saw pressure from BOTH OL groups. But right behind the OL is Smitty. I expect the OL to play for both QB's.

I just want to see who can get Smitty the ball, and that may very well determine who wins this competition.

It's going to be disappointing if Cam only gets the first quarter, which could only be two drives.
