Ok, I feel the need to file a rebuttal. Indigenous person/Mexican by birth, Californian since the Spanish owned the place. My family can be traced here since 1860. I also have experienced the South, their wimmen (Ex-MamaSan is from Baton Rouge) and their food.

Liver mush? Ok, you got us there, I have yet to see that or Scrapple (:puke:) on any grocery shelves.

Grits? Whoa there, big boy. Just another corn product. We have grits on the shelves at most grocery stores. We just prepare it differently in restaurants. I have eaten it as breakfast since I can remember. From Wikipedia - "Grits are a food of Native American origin...."

Chittlins? We call them "tripas" (guts). They can be found prepared in just about every Mexican restaurant, taco wagon and in the meat section at the grocery stores. In fact, I had a tripas burrito for lunch yesterday.

I don't know about out west but when i moved to canada i was totally shocked.

1. No one knew what buttermilk biscuts were.

2. No one knew what sasuage gravy is.

3. No one ever thought to put the 2 together.

Everytime i come home to NC i always stop at some select eaterys to get some.

McDonalds and Tim Hortons just got Biscuts here but they don't taste the same.

IF any of you lived in lake norman like 20 years ago there was a place called B&E in cornelius which was the best breakfast spot. They served livermush biscuits and they were very popular.

B&E had a 20 foot wooden frying pan as there logo outside the store.

Anyway one day B&E sold out to McDonalds. The day they tore it down me an my buddies drove my girlfriends Honda accord to Cornelius and salvaged the frying pan. Had to dig it out of the rubble.

Driving down 77 with a frying pan on top of the car (held down by our hands only) was interesting.

The frying pan remains safe and sound today and i visit it once in a while.

Point is they had amazing livermush.
