Leitch then points out that Vick met with Roger Goodell and the NFL and was steered towards Philly -- "I commend and thank them, because they put me in the right situation" -- which could seriously fire up those two fanbases, given that having Michael Vick on their respective rosters would certainly change things."

From Vick's GQ interview. What a fuging joke, commissioner convincing a guy not to go to a smaller market? This is honestly something that should get Goodell fired, and I'm being serious.

It's not like some big secret is coming out (didn't know about the Cincy and Buff thing though)....When he signed with Philly it was known that Andy Reid was doing Goodell and Dungy a favor by signing Vick. They wanted him to go to a franchise where he could ease back into the game while being in a stable environment and Philly is one of the more stable / respected organizations in the league.

Spin it how you want but it has aboslutely nothing to do with small market / large market. That is just "small market conspiracy complex" leading you to that conclusion.

So you don't think it's wrong that the commissioner of the league convinced a player to sign with a different team? He should have absolutely zero fuging say on where a player goes.

I can see your point there, I just didn't agree with the small market theory.

Goodell was the one who let him back into the league and I can see how that conversation went and don't have a huge problem with it. Vick wanted to come into the league and just jump back into a starting QB position, that is why he wanted Cincy and Buff. Dungy, Goodell, and whoever the NFL is realized that was not in his or the NFLs best interest and "steered" him towards a stable team that was willing to take him and let him ease back into things..... they were right. It was a unique situation that needed to be handled in a unique way. Now if they made him sign with the Eagles and not Cincy or Buffalo that would be a whole different story.

Had Vick gone to Cincy or Buffalo, I don't think things would have turned out well for Vick, Cincy or Buffalo, or the NFL.

why the fug does ohio need 2 teams anyway

I know one thing the Bengals are not going anywhere. Mike Brown brokered a deal that would make Donald Trump jealous. He has a tax-payer funded state-of-the-art stadium, not only that but the Hamilton County tax payers have to pay for upkeep and upgrades. Brown is having a $70,000,000 HD Jumbo-tron added as we speak, all compliments of Joe Q. Taxpayer.

He may a pooty football guy, but he's a hell of a business man.

The way I see it is, Dungy & Goodell wanted Vick to have the best situation possible to get his career back on track, so he intervened. Which was a great gesture.

HOWEVER. Its an eyebrow raiser, and leads folks to believe that Goodell could just intervene like this whenever. It could set a precedent.

I may have been wrong on the small market theory, I'll admit that.. but no matter what way you spin it, the commissioner of the league shouldn't open their mouth when it comes to what team a player should play for. this is a slap in the face to Bengals/Bills fans. They already have to deal with two of the worst owners in professional sports, now they know even the commissioner thinks their franchises are a joke.

Of course. Goodell was busy doing damage control this morning.

It has nothing to do with the small market teams. Goodell wants Vick to stay out of trouble because of the bad press the NFL got when he was fighting dogs. Goodell reinstated Vick and didnt want him going to an unstable place, because it was his reputation on the line as well. The Eagles had an established coach that could help Vick.

I think Vick can backtrack his comments, but I have no doubt that Goodell was nudging him to go to the Eagles, which is uncalled for.

      I remember a really weird pregame moment with him back in I think 2005 or so... Coming back from a commercial, before the guys were even on camera, Curt Menefee did a voice over where he talked about an "inside scoop" from Bradshaw. He said Jake Delhomme was not only gonna be benched, but likely cut. It finished with "Jake Delhomme has started his last game for the Carolina Panthers". And then not another word about it. The way they handled it - giving it only a passing mention then ignoring it - I think Fox thought it was bullsh-t. It felt like they didn't want to broadcast it but Bradshaw pushed until they did. And obviously, it was bullsh-t. Bradshaw has since left the inside scoopage to Jay Glazer...as he should.
