People forget restaurants don't make dick for profit and thats when they are paying them 2.15 an hour without tips. Can't afford to eat out and tip? Stay home.

When we go out our tip always starts at 20%. If we get great service the % goes up... If we get bad service the % goes down to no lower than 15%. We also always stack all of our dishes and clean up after ourselves to hel our server out. If you have never been a server you never understand how important a good tip is.

I disagree, I think it's polite. My wife was a professional waitress for 10 years and she does it also. I'd rather have it ready for the waitress than have him/her have to reach over me to collect plates and poo.

You can request them not to auto tip. It's actually against the law to force you to tip.

i start at 20% and go down. If you are a screw up and aren't mindful I will reduce my tip. If you are making a good effort and acknowledge delays etc, I'm cool with that.

15% is bare bones and to think you are above that or it's meaningless means you have the soul of a hyena.

People should tip caterers, too. Unless the bill says otherwise, the tip is not included. I'm not talking about guests at a party, but the host.
