Insanity workout

For you guys that already finished the workout, are further along than myself, or just have a better idea of what's going on with calories, I have a question...

I sat down and re-figured my Harris Benedict numbers and the number seems ridiculously high. To lose weight, at 5'10", 185 lbs., the equation is telling me I have to take in 2,748 (very active) or 2,461 (moderately active) calories to lose weight.

Now, during the first 16 days of Insanity, I've been eating ~300 calories per meal 4-5 times per day. That pales in comparison to that number. And 16 days in, I'm still hovering around 2-3 lbs. lost and MAYBE 1% body fat. I would expect much bigger results if I've created that huge of a deficit.

What's going on? And what's been happening if I've only been consuming 1,500 calories a day while doing the program? Have I been burning muscle or hurting myself in anyway? This is frustrating, I feel like I've plateaued on the scale, and to a degree in my progress.

You need to eat more

what's your goal weight?

besides the obvious of you being male, you also weigh more than me...I eat 1300/1400 calories a day to maintain where I'm at now...

if you're doing these insanity workout and burning a sh*t ton of calories...you need to up what you're eating

that being said..there's nothing wrong with a 2-3 lbs loss a week...that's actually pretty good

Thanks MPF, I actually started at 187 and am consistently around 185 or 184 since I started the program... It seems like I can't get below 183.

And I would think that if I've been creating this huge of a deficit in calories plus working out that I would be seeing a much bigger difference on the scale.

I'm still eating 4-5 times a day, so my metabolism stays high, but I don't understand why I haven't lost more yet.

My goal weight is around 165, possibly 160... Mainly because I want to get my bodyfat down to 9%.

I just figured the more overweight you are for your height, the less calories you would want to take in, so I figured around 1,500 would give me enough to do the program and create a deficit. This stuff is so frustrating.

I took a break from P90X and getting back into has been hell. 1/2 through a workout and I'm ready to give up. Hopefully this wont last long. I'd like to mix some Insanity into my work out regime. I need more opitions for cardio because I'm getting really bored with Plyo, Cardio X, and Kenpo X.

I imagine you're gaining muscle so your weight isn't changing much. I'd give it sometime and stay off the scale. Go by looks because you're doing all the right things. Work out and reducing calories will give you the body you want.

i gained weight when I started working out but I lost inches.

Thanks Cat, I was starting to get discouraged about it.

Like you said, it must be coming off somewhere. What bothers me is I have one of those digital scales that measures your body fat as well, and according to that I'm only about 1% less body fat than when I started 2 weeks ago.

So my weight and body fat is fairly close to where it was when I started two weeks ago, but things I'm wearing are fitting differently (loosely) and when I measured my waist last week, I had already lost an inch off my waist.

I'm guessing the scale just isn't as accurate as calipers when it comes to body fat, I just wish these results would show up much quicker... But, Lomez told me a lot of people that have done it saw little to no results in the first few weeks but by the 2nd half of the program it really starts to show.

I'll keep pushing through, as I do feel better and my fit test showed I've made lots of progress.

Thanks!

Glad I could help. Go by looks and how your clothes fit.

I have a digital scale that tells my body fat too. It read the same even when I toned up from doing P90X for 6 months. Sometimes it gives me erratic readings showing my body fat higher or really low. I stopped paying attention to it.

I've seen those before... I believe that they have little plates that you stand on and it runs a small current thru you to measure it... I think...

That's true. With those scales you have to be sure you're barefoot and are standing directly on the metal detector things.

DON"T USE HB Formula, it was created a long time ago and is not acurrate. It tends to really go overboard with most people.

I used to do p90x a while ago, and was going to start doing insanity when I'm done with my current bulking cycle.

And to those of you that are doing well with this, keep up the hard work.

If you are eating really healthy food and no carbs and 1700 calories a day though, please don't confuse "I'm building muscle" with "I'm getting stronger". You ARE NOT building muscle. I just don't want people to get confused about that.

So are you saying I should or shouldn't be eating carbs?

Because I'm eating around that amount of calories with at least 3 out of the 5 eating times well balanced with carbs and proteins. Some meals I go all protein, but not usually. For instance, with my lean meats, I always eat some type of bread with them.
