Everytime I hear these stories it reminds of the blue mountain state show on spike lol.

bottom line the reward to break the rules and win a championship out weighs the risk. Programs dont care if they get probation for a couple years with the money a top tier progam roles into the school.

It happens everywhere, but what these rich boosters don't realize (maybe they do) is that they are basically teaching those young students that they won't ever have to work for anything in real life and that they should be entitled to something for everything they do.

those students are working to become NFL/NBA players.. I doubt the kids are learning "I don't have to play hard and practice hard"..

yes, they may be learning "I dont have to go the usual route" that everyone else does through education and a 9-5 job..

hell, I have that mentality.. I don't have a 9-5 job and said fug school. I'm not going 40k in debt when I can get paid extremely well without all that debt.

however, those kids don't sit on their ass and expect football practice to be a breeze.. and any kid that does will get dropped in a heartbeat if his natural born talent doesn't carry over, which many do not. they still have to build upon their god given abilities..

The question I want to know is, why does it seem as if the minorities are the ones being targeted by the NCAA. Please don't tell me rich kids don't take money from agents. Please don't tell me their parents, who can afford to send them to the best schools, don't take the scholarship money and use it on a kid who isn't going to go any further than the minor leagues.

I also think it's pathetic that rich old men pretty much pine over the young football players and worship their former college.

This is not limited to student-athletes. Does it piss you off when a stand out law student or a future Wall Street guru receive the same kind of gifts? If little things like this piss you off now, you are going be really unhappy when you get out of college...

The difference between the "poo" they do at Miami and the "poo" they do at Auburn (and the other SEC schools) is this: from the stuff I've read, at Miami the "poo" is all about the party.

In the SEC the "poo" is all about the football.

What's more immoral, athletes taking improper benefits or everyone else in NCAA athletics making bank off of these kids? The coaches and ADs make millions, the NCAA employees themselves are very well compensated. The athletes get a scholarship but are otherwise flat broke, yet they're the ones lining the pockets of others but they better not take a dime for themselves! It's bullpoo.

Anyone that actually believes this clearly didn't go to college and doesn't understand the true value of the education they are receiving.

Btw, those coaches and ADs that are "making millions" off of these athletes aren't in the position they are just because they used to run a 4.3 40 or shoot 50% from beyond the arch, it has a large deal to do with the education they received when they were in school. And the same goes for the directors at the NCAA (who are really the only ones making a lot of money off of these kids).

By the way, everyone telling CCS that he just needs to get over all the athletes getting preferential treatment because the world "isn't fair" needs to listen to their own words when complaining about those athletes not being "fairly compensated".

Being a current college student I'm just a little bit bias on this issue. It pisses me off that I'm paying out the ass and going into debit that I won't pay off until I'm 30 while some people get free rides and all kinds of goodies just because they can throw a football.

Why don't you talk to some of your tenured (i.e. can't be fired) college professors who teach about 3 hours per week, do "research" another 10 hours per week, travel around the world to "research" conferences in Honolulu, Las Vegas, Rio De Janeiro, Brussels on the university dime, make about $150-200,000 per year, about how unfair it is that the football players (who work their ever lovin' ASSES off, btw) get scholarships, room, and board?

It's unfair that the I have to pay for me and other peoples education while they get free swag and an education just for being a D level basketball player. But maybe my opinion will change with a different school in a big conference.

Depends on the school you go to, but you do realize that if you are going to one of the major football schools that their Athletic Department funds are *totally* separated from General Scholarship and Academic funds, right?

And that money earned by the athletic programs plus money donated by supporting boosters and alums pays for the athletic scholarships?

Unless you are a season ticket holder, booster, or alum that makes direct donations to your school's athletic funds, you are not paying for a damned dime that goes toward the players schollies, room, or board.

Auburn's football program (plus donations) easily covers all athletic operation costs plus all scholarship/room/board costs. Not a single dime from the University's general funds are ever required.

A) Tenured professors aren't just goofing off all week long. When they go to conferences, they aren't just sitting on the beach listening to a speaker while sipping on a martini. They actually do have to do work.

B) Obtaining tenure as a professor is an accomplishment that requires a lifetime of working their asses off as well. It's not the same physical exertion that is required of football players, but the work they put in is more mentally demanding than most will ever know. They earn every benefit that is given to them, including the $150,000+ salary and research opportunities in foreign country, throughout 20 years or more of dedicated service to the university.

The fact of the matter is that all conferences bring in large amounts of money to the host city, therefore, every city in this county has a department that is responsible for selling their city to agencies so they can host their conferences. It is no surprise that places like Miami, Honolulu and New York beat out places like Buffalo, Boise and Des Moines as popular host cities.
