Article on Pilares

I don't think I'm sleeping on him but I have realistic expectations for him. I think if he is used correctly as a slot receiver he should be productive. As far as his rookie season goes, I don't know if you can expect to see him anything higher than the #4 receiver (at best).

Don't want to see him returning punts, that's for sure.

I think anybody that was asleep woke the fug up when we all saw his speed on that 4th qtr touchdown play... Very reminsant of DeAngelo's play as a rookie a few years back on a swing pass in his rookie pre-season debut. The speed was blinding! ^He can and will definitely spread the field which will help everybody else on the field.

I agree the guy is talented and may have a future but we need to calm down. The other scenario is that a seasoned former pro bowl qb exposed a 3rd team/scrub defense and gave Pilares an easy six. As crazy as this sounds it is much more plausible than Pilares being All-World.

That article stated that to compare Pilares to Smitty is impossible at this point, because Smitty has a resume and Pilares has an exhibition.

But Pilares has a resume as well. He has been an athlete pretty much his whole life. He played in HS and college, as well as played 2 different positions: RB and WR. Not to mention a ton of other sports.

That tells me the guy can carry the ball and run routes. He at least has some knowledge of the two positions, and can carry some of the ball carrying skills of RB into the WR position.

Plus, the kid is fast, or quick, or whatever. But he has ability that is for sure. All it comes down to now is coaching, and retention of information, all while keeping the basics of catching, ball carrying, and athleticism. We shall see how it goes.
