Jon Beason Appears To Be Pretty Involved in the U of M Scandle

Beason's in the pros now and as long as no major LAWS were broken (not NCAA violations) I still have a favorable opinion of Beason. I'm sure every top 25 football school has NCAA violations if they were investigated throughly enough.

Debating the the integrity of college football programs is like debating which horse is healthiest at the glue factory.

I enjoy watching college football, but the idea that there is purity left in the game or whatever is absurd.

Just like anything else in life, when there is that much money involved in anything, corruption is not far behind.

My only beef with college football is that it has reached organized religion levels of hyprocrisy as far as the programs (and by extension the fans) throwing dirt on one another when they all are filthy.

Just admit that you want to win more than anything else and that you are willing to do anything to meet that end.

Just like in politics, it's only cheating if you get caught. And I'm not saying the NFL or pro leagues are better, but at least they don't have the pretense of being anything beyond paid-for entertainment.

But the idea to entangle a sports team with not only a university but by extension the quote-unquote "integrity" of a place of higher-learning is ridiculous. A college sports team has absolutely nothing to do with higher learning beyond bringing in alumni and booster dollars. Nothing.

Big business sports should be its own seperate entity. But universities will stay in bed with this hypocrisy b/c there is simply too much money to be made not to.

Here is the issue that Mike Golic brought up this morning.

It is wrong for this stuff to be allowed or ignored because all it takes is for one of these guys dishing out money to say "I'll give you $100k if you shave some points off the game."

Is that cool? Its probably already happened as well. Granted, these kids are already out of school so how do you punish them? So then you're left with punishing the school and thats what they need to fix is the punishments so that school have tighter control over what happens with these kids who are already getting FREE education.

On a side note - Does the NCAA have control over when a kid can leave to go do professional sports or is that up to the NFL/NBA/etc.?

And we play as small time football as there is.

"Uncle Luke" sounds off on "Little Luke"

Nevin Shapiro wishes he could wear my shorts for one day. The New Jersey-born Napoleon dubbed himself "Little Luke" in a so-called investigative report by Yahoo! Sports claiming all sorts of corrupt poo Shapiro committed while he was a booster of the University of Miami athletics program.

The claims even include hooking up football players with prostitutes and buying them bottles at Mansion. That punk could never be me.

First of all, I have never been a UM booster. I have never given a dime to the school. I have and always will support the players and the program out of civic pride, but I never violated any NCAA rules when I was the team's biggest fan in the '80s. And I definitely would not have ever paid for a stripper to abort a baby allegedly fathered by a UM football player, like Shapiro claims he did.

You can't be me just by reading a Dan Le Batard article in the Miami Herald from 21 years ago alleging I paid players for hits on the field. The NCAA investigated those accusations and found no wrongdoing on my part. This notion that I was paying players is false. It never happened.

If Nevin really wanted people to see him as "Little Luke," he would have dedicated part of his life to helping kids in Miami's inner-city neighborhoods get a college education. He certainly never started a youth athletic program that has been around for more than 30 years helping underprivileged parents in Liberty City mold their children.

It has never been about money for me. It has always been about community service. That's what being Uncle Luke is really about.

Shapiro is nothing more than a jilted groupie who fuged over a lot people. He is an opportunistic schemer who now wants to play the role of jailhouse snitch. His word isn't worth squat, especially if Yahoo! paid him for the exclusive. Nevin is angry because he couldn't get former players to invest in his Ponzi scheme or come to his rescue when his criminal enterprise was exposed.

I always had a feeling Shapiro was a sketchy motherfuger. I could see right through him two minutes into our first conversation. During one of our meetings, he was trying to get me to be a part of his sports agency because he knew I work with all the kids in the inner city playing football. He also complained that the former players didn't want to invest in his food business after he had bought jerseys and memorabilia to support the program.

He was all about himself. Shapiro wanted to use me like he was using the UM players and other celebrity athletes he courted. I knew to stay away from him. So did Randy Shannon, who warned all of his assistants that if he caught them with Shapiro, he would fire them. Randy hated that beady-eyed defamer. Surprisingly, Shannon's name was conspicuously absent in Yahoo!'s breathtaking 11-month investigation.

The NCAA shouldn't even waste any gas money on this guy. But the investigators have to do their due diligence. In the meantime, every UM fan should send a letter to Shapiro's prison warden and insist he remain in the general population.

Hell Guys at Fayetteville State(CIAA) were getting direct deposits for "mowing the field" which they never did...

Ur screwed if you pay players as much as you if you dont...but for those who sit there saying I cannot support a cheater..then ur from another time that does not currently exist.

Instead of a salary or payment from the university itself, why don't they just let these kids make money off their own personal endorsement deals and sponsorships? Or give them all a piece of that EA Sports NCAA 12 money if their likeness is in it. Or give them a percentage of jersey sale money or something.

Some of the stuff the NCAA is against is ridiculous to me. If I play football at a D1 school and a tattoo artist wants to give me free tats for promoting his shop, I really don't see why that is bad at all?

I remember I used to always go to parties at Berkeley in my early-mid 20's. Religiously. I talked to a lot of people that had classes with guys like DeSean Jackson or Marshawn and a slew of other guys and they'd say how the guys rarely even came to class and they'd show up deep in a stretch limo when they'd go to even smaller house parties. I know they weren't paying for that stuff.
