I didn't really think he was NJP... Until this... Now I'm really suspicious.

I hope this guy is legit, but my gut says...

Careful with this one, I must be...

Just sayin...

212, I mean no harm to you if u are not NJP... But it seems a little suspect to me. You have come out of nowhere all of the sudden when that guy has suddenly gone ghost...

Edit: if others can confirm that this is 100% no way in hell NJP I'd appreciate it.

Don't want to feel like an idiot for a second time.

Well, to put your fears to rest, here's my story (truncated):

he looked down. had to stay longer and work on his footwork when everyone else had finished up. threw two picks tonite and missed lots of passes.

This isn't the first time he has looked dejected. For better or worse, Cam wears his emotions on his sleeves.

I think he is a great kid, no matter what happens to him as a QB for our team, but he still has some maturing to do.

He will be fine. Expect him to bounce back quickly, be nothing but smiles for a few days, and then look dejected again at some point in the future.

Newton is a gamer when the lights come on he puts it all together which is why i don't read to much into his practices.

The blind homerism for Cam on this board is still ridiculous.

Jimmy has a bad practice and he is a bum.

Cam has a bad practice and he is a gamer.

Geesh

practice isn't the end all be all......I think there was a reason Steve Smith made the comment about you can evaluate guys just b/c they have good practices and that often they shrink in game scenarios.

Cam IMO is and will always be a gameday QB. What they do in these next 4 preseason games IMO is more telling than play by play tweets on a practice field. Plus, you have 1 QB playing w/ only the studs in practice and one QB getting a mixed bag.....playing w/ the studs automatically is gonna make you look sharper to a degree.

Agree. How long have we been asking for a true QB competition in camp? Now we finally have one and don't appreciate it.

Yes, but in Clausen's only game this year he actually looked pretty good, and he was able to move our offense against a first team defense pretty effectively... something he struggled mightily with last year. Improvement in practice is important, because for a young guy it really can translate to the game. One of John's comments was that Clausen has narrowed his stance, which is why he is standing more uproot and he has fewer tipped balls now. He'll still have them occasionally because he isn't all that tall, but this was a major concern many had and if he's working to address it, that COULD translate to playing better in games.

Plus, you have 1 QB playing w/ only the studs in practice and one QB getting a mixed bag.....playing w/ the studs automatically is gonna make you look sharper to a degree.

To a degree, but it's not going to magically change Cam's footwork to throw to 89. Remember too that they didn't start out with Clausen getting all the 1s reps, they were splitting reps, and now Clausen is getting the majority of the 1s. That should 'count' for something as far as what the coaches think of Jimmy's progression.

Cam is going to be great if he keeps working at it, but there is no shame in him sitting behind Jimmy while he gets his footwork down if that's what the coaches think should happen.

I personally think Cam is still more likely to start, but I don't think it is by much, and I think another good showing by Clausen could move him up and lock him in to #1 for the first few weeks while Cam continues to improve. No doubt, Cam will take over at some point this season, though.

Why do you and others care if he has a source?

Grow the fug up and move on.

Well, Cam and Jimmy were pretty much equal in the actual game they played.

So.....what is your excuse now?

CLAUSEN DEEP IN NAANEE

Aside from that miserable, unfortunate typo, let me make my position on Clausen/Cam very clear:

--I have no favorites here. I look at several things while other writers are busy watching the ball floating in the air:

1. QB's pre-snap adjustments

2. Footwork under center--Newton shows occasional "tells" on run v. pass

3. Efficiency with drops from behind center

4. Back foot and leg drive through the ball

5. Velocity and placement of the throw (accuracy is a hack term--placement is what matters. Many say Clausen's TD to Olsen on SAT was not accurate. Actually, it was very well placed, given the trail coverage and S over the top)

--Clausen, unless you are biased, had a far better night as a pro QB on Tuesday

--Newton wasn't bad--just inefficient. Looked lethargic. Sloppy with footwork again.

--Anderson has no shot to start if he plays like he practiced last night. Keep in mind, on his TD drive vs. NY, his second completion was a tipped ball that was caught on a lucky break by Charly Martin. His last throw, the TD, was a simple bubble screen. He threw the ball 10-yards, laterally, and 81 did the rest. I'm in the minority here, but come cut-time, he might not make it, if Hurney sees someone else with a little more accuracy out there.

I have followed this team since Bob Christian's TD in the in 1995 HOF Game. I'm not a "fan-boy", but with respect to the history of this team, I'm a decent resource for info.

As an observer, I want Cam to be ready now, because he is going to be the guy sooner or later. But he can't one-hop simple stick routes to TE's and expect to win the job with his smile alone. Has to be good in practice, all the time. That's what Rivera wants to see, and until he breaks out of the rookie funk, Clausen will be their guy.

But, then again, watch me be 100% wrong on all of this

Thanks again for checking out the site, and if you aren't already, follow me at www.twitter.com/johnellis212

Thx,

John Ellis (NOT NJP)

I won't be mad at all if Clausen starts over Cam.. the kid was raw, obviously still is, and this whole concept that QBs need to start right away or bust is ridiculous..

he has all the tools, appears to be an intelligent guy, and if his work ethic is to be the best, then there's no need to force the issue..
