Charles Godfrey. Potential to be one of the best?

I never said anything about Godfrey's coverage. People keep saying Godfrey had to cover for Marshall. I thought I remembered Godfrey playing on the side with Gamble, but I could be wrong. So I asked a question that had nothing to do with his coverage.

He's never on the same side all the time. But I can remember countless times that Marshall s**t his britches and made Godfrey look like an ass chasing down the receiver. Like I said, he's not without fault though. Hope Rivera coaches him up.

I don't live in the Carolinas so it is difficult for me to catch most of our games. But going off my memory (which is terrible), Godfrey was normally lined up on the side with Gamble and Martin was with Marshall. So bad coverage by Marshall would result in Martin looking bad, not Godfrey. But I also believe Godfrey and Martin sometimes switch side, which is why I asked the question.

As for the OP, I think Godfrey has been a solid starter for us. Sometimes he is out of position, but he also makes big plays. If he continues to improve, he may be one of the best in a couple seasons.

The key word here is potential. The question pertains to his potential to become one of the top safeties not whether or not he is there already. Safeties typically take some time to develop and that is why you usually see veterans as the top of that position. IMO, he has the potential to grow into that.

I cant see Godfrey being Elite after seeing the way Peyton Hillis destroyed him last year.

Anythings possible, he had a lot of INTS last year which is always good. Maybe with a new defensive scheme and a better offense to keep them off the field more often I could see an improvement coming for Godfrey. I always thought Godfrey has potential to have a career like Mike Minter. Never Elite but always a solid player.

I for one would vote that he is a potential star in the making - his range is incredible and reminds me of Troy P. in how he can be on one side of the field, anticipate, and be where the play is at on the other side of the field at the same time the ball gets there.

Now, his 'toughness' is nowhere near troy's, but his durability is far superior and i would take that 10 times out of 10 over highlight reel hits that only make a difference in a small number of football situations (goal line is one of them).
