Fox was a good coach at times. You do not end your career at a franchise with a losing record if you didn't have problems as a coach. The core players have always been here. The talent is here. A lame duck coach who is very conservative in an otherwise aggressive league is what led to our 2-14 record. Players stopped playing for Fox...that is the bottom line.

the NFL will clearly see that this is a decent team...much better than 2-14...with only a few additions. The new coaching staff and the philosophy they bring with them will make a huge difference.

The new coaching are the new pieces, regardless of Fox. They have inspired the players, the players were getting sick of Fox and his style that won't win poo in the NFC south, and I quote Dwill "and it is what it is no more", the coaching are the new pieces. It's obvious you're not a fan or you'd know that.

You can give us all the poo you want for last year but to think it wasn't done for a reason, and that it was some sort of beginning of a complete failure by incompetency of the FO is stupid, especially when you have yet to see the final result.

Some people seriously act as if it is their money he is spending. As long as the team competes (which I admit it has been a while), then who cares what we spend.

Johnson - We've had the advantage of seeing him play and grooming him so I think Marty was in a very good position to Judge how good Johnson might become. I think we did overpay for him but I think the Panthers thought him to be a lynchpin on the defense.

1. They know Atalanta, a division rival, were very interested in him.

2. He was their #1 off season move, ie. they think he's very important to the future of this team.

3. Johnson probably wanted to go to Atlanta, his home town.

So, with all this in mind you know you're going to have to pay him a little more because he'd like to go to Atlanta. You can't offer him the same, you have to beat their bid, probably by more than a few peanuts too. You know he's the #1 DE in free agency and good DE's don't grow on trees.

Say we offered him a contract more like the one Atlanta offered Edwards, then Atlanta is competing for him and the more possible it is that we don't get the chance to match/beat the Atlanta offer. Our first offer had to blow his socks off if we wanted to be sure we would get him. The Panthers were not willing to take the chance of saving 3-5 million a year for a good possibility of loosing him. He meant that much to the Panthers.

Deangelo - I love Williams. I think he is the most explosive player for us on offense. Every time he touches the ball I think he has the change to take it to the house.

1 - Our new offense is predicated on a power running game. You only have to look at what LT did as part of the Chargers Offense to see how big a part the RB plays. Two quality backs only makes that even more potent.

2 - We also really need that power running game to take the pressure off our young and inexperienced QB's. If we already had a Brees or Ryan then we probably would not have spent so much to keep Williams. Deangelo will earn every penny of that contract.

Mare - A little much for a kicker but as it saves a rooster spot and gets us one of the best kickers in the league I don't see it as that big a problem. Over the last 3 years he's the 3rd best FG kicker in the league and is not far behind the first 2. With his leg strength and new kickoff rules he easily will be able to get touchbacks at will.

Beason - We agree on.

Davis - If he's back to form before his injuries as our medical staff swear he is then he's worth the money. If he's not we can opt out of his contract after this year. Yes, that is costing us 8 million this year but that's better than eating his whole deal if he's not healthy.

These are largely the same players that carried the team to a 12-4 record the year before last. They have that kind of talent.

PS. The TV contracts will be up for renewal in the middle of most of these deals. We won't be in any kind of Cap confinement that some predict because the Cap is going to make a huge jump when those contracts are done.
