What evidence do we have?? Once again lets look at the numbers.

Carolina:

Our issue was offense not defense. Remember where you guys gave up 5.6 yards a play? Yeah we gave up 5.1 a play. Where you allowed 39% of third downs to be completed, we allowed 38%. We did allow 25 points a game while you allowed 18 but we also were on the field an average of 5 more minutes a game. Our sacks were even and our pass defense was a little more porous at 11 yards a completion versus the Falcons 10.6.

What did we do to improve? We signed 2 third round DTs who will shore up the middle, signed Johnson who had 13 sacks in a poor scheme, will have Davis back who was on IR all last year, will have Gamble who missed 6 games last year and have a number of young players who are a year further in their development. Best of all we brought in Rivera who engineered the number 1 defense in the NFl last year. (and if you think coaching doesn't matter, don't response or you will be ridiculed).

Our problem was offense and a poor scheme and poor quarterback play. With Otah back the line is instantly better. With Olsen and Shockey we have instant offense. Add that Smith who was disgruntled and didn't play evry game last year but is excited about this offense. With a Air Coryell vertical passing attack it will clear the box and help the running game as well as open up routes for the TEs against linebackers and safeties. Chud was TE coach for San Diego which had the number 1 offense last year. And if you think scheme and coaching don't matter, appear intelligent and keep it to yourself.

Finally, it this a guarantee of success?? There are no guarantees in football but if we are only 7 points better on offense and no better on defense we will win at least 6 or 7 games this year. That is very likely, including winning our game with the Falcons at home.

Let's flip that coin and pass it back.

What tangible evidence do you have that you will improve?

None.

I have a much better case on my side.

I can bring up past performance,

It's not much, but it's more than you've got.

You can bring up wishful thinking.

You may say "Oh the new system this..."

Or "Oh Cam Newton that..."

But until the ball is snapped on week one...

Never said you'd be worse.

In fact, I think you will be markedly better.
