As long as they keep performing I don't really care. D-Will's was the only one I found unnecessary, but I'm over that now.

Look here folks.

So one signing is already "unnecessary," before he takes the first handoff of his contract?

And you put up with this?

When the rest of the cards begin to fall,

And Beason is the only one playing up to his contract,

Will you stand by your words?

Spot why do you care about the Panthers contracts? It's not your money, hell its not even your team. I understand you are an orphaned Falcons fan, and being shunned by your fellow fans on their message board obviously caused you some emotional trauma. Your acting out on an opposing teams board is evidence of that. I know it must have been hard not getting the attention you wanted on the Falcons board, and now that you are here you may feel that you are finally getting the attention you deserve. Sadly this is not the case, you are just a troll who will never be taken seriously.

I'm good with that.. considering the Panthers are about to take the Falcons spotlight once our team grows up and your team is put in a retirement home..

Once again.

You base your entire opinion off one game.

We were middle of the league in yards per game.

Top five in points per game.

Heck, we even held GB to 14 earlier in the season.

Be objective.

And don't make uninformed statements.

Yard per game is really a poor statistic. it is what we call a quantity stat not a quality stat. For example, you can rush for 200 yards which sounds great unless you ran the ball 100 times which yields 2 yards per carry. Conversely a team can run 20 times and average 5 yards a carry for a total of 100 yards. Now which team has a better ground game??

What Atlanta did well last year is limit points against them and in the end that is a big statistic given that the only truly impportant stats are points for and points against. As for how effective Atlanta was between the 30s, not great at all. Why is points against not something you can count on though. Too many factors like turnovers in the redzone, missed field goals account for those points but it isn't always something you are doing but something the other team is not doing. If you give up few points and are in the top 10 in yards per attempt rushing or passing on defense then you have something to hang your hat on.

Lets look at the numbers for 2010;

Atlanta was 27th in yards surrendered per play, 22nd in first downs allowed and 18th in 3rd down's surrendered.

Looking further- they were 25th in rushing defense if you look at yards per carry. Against the pass they were fifth on yards surrendered per pass at 10.6 preferring not to give up the deep pass. They were 21st in total yards surrendered through the air but if you look at the fact that teams threw against them alot (tied for 4th highest), their pass defense wasn't that bad. They were tied with Carolina and Minnesota for 20th in sacks at 31. (mind you we were very critical of the lack of pressure we generated last year). Atlanta was 5th in interceptions with 22.

Analysis- Atlanta gave up way too many yards per possession last year and was poor in run defense. Their pass defense was good as far as the defensive backfield but they failed to get pressure consistently. They were not good getting off the field allowing way too many third down conversions. Their best stat was the one that counted which was points surrendered which suugests they had a bend don't break philosophy and benefitted from an offense that generated points. What would you want to bolster on the defense? Better line play and better containment by the LBs in the run game. Honestly I don't think they really addressed those issues sufficiently with Edwards alone. And they gave up so many picks for Jones, they didn't adress the defensive concerns through the draft. With teams in the division gaining offensive weapons, Atlanta will be hard pressed not to give up more points per game and could easily find themselves in slugfests having to outscore opoonents instead of stopping them. Signs point to a 10-6 season at best this year.

Uninformed?? LOL.

I'm good with that.. considering the Panthers are about to take the Falcons spotlight once our team grows up and your team is put in a retirement home..

Once again.

You assume that just because you were terrible last year, your team is young and will improve.

Atlanta's average age is 26.16

Carolina's is 25.0.

Do you really think that one extra year of youth will help you "take the spotlight?"

I think not.

Especially so,

(Dtan doing a favor and getting you all back on topic here)

considering the grotesque contracts to old, injury prone players your "GM" is handing out.

that's a valid point.. however, it's not in reference to what I mentioned in previous posts.. I already explained where I was coming from by saying your team is old. I'm not referring to the majority of your team. I'm talking about the inner workings of what makes your team run smoothly.

what makes your team successful is Michael Turner. That's where it all starts, he's massive and quick. impossible to bring down. but he's been rode hard and dirty. how much longer will he have? I think we can agree 2 more years before he falls off, fast.

without a run game, we both also agree Matty Ice isn't going to thrive in the same way. He's riding that Turner wave because the defense can't Tee off on pass rushing due to Turner (a lot like the Panthers witnessed last year without our run game.. teh defenses were stacking the box daring our QB to throw the ball)..

we also both agree Gonzo is done.. He's been a great safety valve for your QB. You take both of those factors out of your offense and you are left with JJ and Roddy White..

with an average at best QB.. thats going to be a real problem for you all.

all those factors clearly explained and I'm pretty sure we agree with those, I'm not stretching the truth on how football works in the NFL and how your team is setup to succeed..

so with that said, you also spent a lot of draft picks on 1 guy, and your defense needs help.

what kept you from the SB was getting carved up by Aaron Rodgers.. lack of QB pressure was a huge issue and your pass defense suffered greatly..

therefore, when I say age is going to kill your team, KEY positions will degrade the chemistry on the Falcons and the lack of high draft picks is only going to ensure y'all have a huge hill to climb.. without those, and a pooty GM (your words), I don't forsee you all lasting very long in that spotlight..

If we can get an able replacement (top 10) back, success will continue.

And we addressed that lack of QB pressure by getting a consistant, 8 sack guy for a good price.

Matt's growth is key.

If he can just become a "pretty good" QB, I like our chances.

You do not.

We are just gonna have to agree to disagree here.

And talk again in 3 years.

8 sack guy playing next to Allen and Williams Wall = 4 sack guy in Atlanta.

Good luck with Edwards....you are going to need it.

Not really sure why you feel the urge to talk smack about my 13-3 team that added 2 very good players while your 2-14 team continues to flounder.

Wish all you want, but you will be markedly closer to repeating last years' debacle.

Than you will be to 8-8.

Edwards was the 3rd most effective pass rusher last year (per PFF).

While the Williams Wall was a non factor (also per PFF)

The lack of sacks was due to the fact that he plays LE, not RE.

So righty QBs can see him coming.

Resulting in pressure, but not sacks.

And once again, reverting to the main point,

We paid 1/2 as much, and 1/3 as much guaranteed to get him as you did for Johnson.

Charles Johnson is a better player.

But not 2 or 3 times better.

That's a little food for thought.

Bitter, yes, but you're gonna have to eat it eventually.

The quicker you get it down, the better.
