Jon Gruden thinks Terrelle Pryor may be better than Newton

Just to answer this thread real quickly

Gruden is not a moron

Gruden did not say TP is better than Cam

Gruden has not suggested TP is better than Cam

TP is not a troublemaker

TP has not gone down any road that was not already paved long ago

Cam is not in any type of competition with TP

Carolina is not interested in TP, nor would he be a great backup simply because of what someone thinks Gruden might think.

I am not a fan of TP or tOSU

What problems has he had???? a problem child, how??? all i heard of was gifts he got and selling his stuff, that's not problems, just him breaking college rules. As for his arm not being strong, i disagree, he has a strong arm and HAS shown it, HOWEVER, like someone, maybe you, said, when pressured, his arm usually isnt that great. in other words, when he's pressured, he makes AWFUL decisions.

there was one pass to Sanzinbacher vs. Toledo where he threw a long TD pass, he has a big arm, the problem is when he's pressure or moving he throws those loft balls, it's mainly his decision making and his mechanics that's the issue, he's worse than Cam, that's easy to spot and those are the main reasons, he's not poised in the pocket at all or he wasnt in college.

So from what your saying gruden thinks a player who should have more mechanics down playing in a pro style offense is WORSE than a 1 year starter from a spread offense? I mean he was starting in ohio state for what 3 years? Said he would stay with Ohio state this year even with his problems then finds out his coach will be gone etc and he wants to go pro last second? Why not stay, master what you are bad at and make that bank next year when you "prove" people wrong. His decission making can be questioned on and off the field. Like I said earlier I'd rather take Tyrod Taylor wayyyy before him much better arm, speed, and can actually be poised in the pocket.

he left because he was GOING to be suspended for the year by Ohio State and possibly the NCAA, how can he prove anything not playing on the team??? he basically had to leave. when you say he has problems, you are sounding like he's committed crimes, he hasnt. he broke NCAA rules and is basically being kicked out. the only problems i see are poise and decision making, usually when he moves around.

From what I remember hearing he was going to be gone for 6 games but could have gotten that confused. But why tell your coach and team your gonna stay? The only problems I've said is his mechanics, which he should have more down from coming from a pro style offense starting 3 years straight. How could someone like cam have better technique than he does from starting 1 year at a big school that uses the spread? If he was suspended for the year than yeah sure go pro but don't tell your team and coach your staying then change your mind

if i am right, he was PLANNING on staying, but then the other investigation came and then Tressel got in trouble and he "resigned" but in reality, he got out of there because if he didnt Ohio State would have a ton of sanctions and plus he would've been fired. Pryor basically left because he was going to be investigated and possibly suspended for the year by either Ohio State or the NCAA, he WAS going to just be suspended for 5 games, but then another investigation came, something to do with a car dealer or something.

As for his mechanics yeah they are poor, usually when he moves and while it was more pro style, it wasnt all pro style, they had alot of designed runs and some spread involved and Pryor hasnt gotten the pro style offense down yet.

If he was suspended for the year than yeah sure go pro but don't tell your team and coach your staying then change your mind

he told his coach and the team he was staying when it was JUST the FIVE game suspension, BUT when it got worse and the rumored year long suspension happened and Tressel resigned, that was when he changed his mind.

I call BS.

There is no direct quote.

The NFL needs to do the right thing right now, and let Pryor into the draft. If he’s good enough to get drafted, and if (as we’re hearing) Jon Gruden is privately expressing a belief that Pryor may be better than Cam Newton

This pure hersey.

If John Gruden thought that he would say it, he's not a bashful guy.

When Gruden spoke highly of Cam Newton there were direct quotes.

Such as:

"I think Cam Newton's the best player in the country...He's got everything I'm looking for."

If you watch his QB series I think its clear that he viewed Pryor as a QB/WR.

This thread is still going? Really?

I vote it gets a lock for Media Trolling on several counts:

1. It's a PFT article.

2. It's Mike Florio reporting on a player who isn't even in the NFL, and takes a passing shot at Newton and the Panthers.

3. What he is reporting is more rumor than fact. Can ANYONE corroborate his statement of what Gruden supposedly said?

Gruden's still upset about the missed field goals a few years back.

If TP was "Better than Newton," then why did Newton go #1 and TP not declare?

TP will make a nice TE somewhere.

That's all.

Luck was the best QB in this class had he declared. Just because he was better doesn't mean he had to enter the draft.

That's all.

    • Exactly.  You let him play out next season and continue to develop Thorton.  Jackson’s earned his next contract, but his age and the risk of tying up such a large portion of the payroll at one position leads me to believe that we’ll let him walk. In all likelihood, we’ll draft another CB, or two, and bring in some journeymen to fill the roster void, between now and the start of the 2027 season.  That’ll create more balance financially across the roster enabling us to invest in other areas.
    • As far as the NFCS … I think this division will be hotly contested the next couple of years.   I am tending to pay more respect to both Atlanta and the Saints n terms of how strong they will be moving forward, than not.    I am mixed on Ryan but think they have a decent roster to start with. I don’t think he blundered hiring Stefanski. And that offense can be dangerous with a QB. Plus, defense is arrow up. No 1st round pick, WB issues will dull their effectiveness. Question is, to what degree?   I think Moore is going to be a good HC and can overcome tape that people have on Shough. They need a lot but they were playing with people. Just the way you want to see all the way to the end.    Not sure about Tampa they have Mayfield but I don’t think they can maintain their success and Bowles is not going to last much longer. They have to go through all that. Gonna be tough once it starts. Might already have started.    For us I feel pretty good about Morgan. But less so about our offense, we have some short term RB and OL issues and those things are critical given what we are working with at QB.  Overall, mixed. Like a lot of what I see but some major question marks remain.
    • Absolutely. If we are talking about a 20 year old youngster. He's a grown-ass man, and he doesn't know what his job entails or how to do it? Maybe he will be better next year! It's the Panther way.
