Eric Norwood, starter?

I am suprised I haven't seen any threads on this so I figured I would go ahead and start.

I noticed before the Giants game Saturday Eric Norwood was the left defensive end on the depth chart, I thought it was a typo but when the starting line-up was announced Saturday Eric Norwood was starting at LDE. At first I thought this was because of Charles Johnson being out of the game but Everette Brown was starting for him.

This brings me to two questions. Is Norwood good enough to be the starting DE? or does our defensive linemen suck that bad?

I had big hopes for Greg Hardy this season and I figured Brown would have a great year as well but it looks like so far they wont be starting. I know its only the preseason at a lot can change before the season begins but for Norwood to already be penciled in at starter surprises me. I do recall hearing that Norwood did surprise coaches in training camp but this much?

If Norwood does end up being the starter then I give the man major props and wish him the best. I also hope that Hardy and Brown are going to end up playing to their potential.

I'm gonna say dont worry too much about who starts as I am sure rivera and mcdermott are going to put people where they can create mismatches and cause the most havoc. So matching up a fast DE to a Big OL or a Big DE vs a Small OL etc...They will be moved around and changed up.

watching Norwood on a few plays, he got tremendous push in run support. I was surprised to see "92" pushing his guy into the backfield on a few occasions.. and we know that's what he has to work on the most..

he looks promising.. based on Rivera's comments, he's doing really good.

I think Hardy will have a big year as well.

Brown looked good or so I thought. No on on our D played soft but its only one game in the preseason so I will try not to get that hyped up.

I expect Brown to finally come out and play up to his potential this season. Defensive ends sometimes take 3-4 years to fully develop look at Justin Tuck and our own Charles Johnson. Be patient with the kid. You also have to consider that Brown came out of school early so the kid is still young.

Also correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Brown have a lot of Qb hurries/ pressures in his first year? I thought he ranked third or 4th his rookie year in Qb hurries and he didn't see a lot of playing time.

The kid was a beast in college and was one of the top defensive players in the country his junior year so the kid should be able to get the job done soon enough.

I was amazed with how much publicity the kid recieved in college, for those who don't know read his bio here.

Hardy will be definitely be the starter. The dude has too much potential/strength/speed not to be. I'm excited about Norwood but I'm really hoping Brown steps it up. He seems like a high character guy/genuine guy and I'd like to see him do well. He needs to get mean and start believing in his abilities and not just resorting to spin moves.
