How come I can't rap?

I think rap embraces stupidity and is one of the many causes of the ongoing devolution that's happening in western societies. It's not just rap though, country music and a lot of pop music is exactly the same.

I think all music has gotten ridiculous. It isn't about sending a message, it isn't even about real things that the average Joe can relate to. It's all about money.

Rap used to be great when it was poetry with a beat. Some artists still do it. Most don't.

Country used to be great when it was songs written from the heart and BY the artist.

Rock used to be good when it was...well, good.

Everything else has always sucked.

Most mainstream music these days is horrible. But the more underground stuff, whether rap, rock, soul, etc has a lot of hidden gold.

sums this thread up..

I mean, it wouldn't be fair of me to go around assuming every fan of rock were Nickleback fans and that all bands were just like Nickleback.. would be very ignorant of me..

yet that's how majority of ill-informed people view hip-hop..

Totally agree....I may sound like a snob or an elitist..but I refuse to listen to Charlotte radio anymore..97 % of the music they play sucks. If that's all you listen to and think music nowadays sucks bawls..that's the reason why

Pandora and XM radio have opened up my eyes in music in the last 5 years..there is so much good stuff out there, it's unreal

I blame the industry itself... They pump out dumbed down bullpoo and pay to have it played on TV and the radio... It is the same in every genre too... not just hip-hop...

The consumers are to blame also, because they eat it up... Do you know how bad a band like Disturbed, Godsmack, or Nickelback has made it for modern rock music? Sure there are people that genuinely like them, but those bands don't do anything that anyone couldn't go out there and do themselves with very little talent...

That is the problem I have with mainstream/radio/network played music... It prohibits creativity, and gives artists no motivation to progress...

I think everyone will agree with this.. I find it hilarious, though, that people focus the "shitty music label" on hip-hop, but ignore that it applies just as much (if not more) to every major genre..

I can't remember the last time I've switched to a rock station and was like "damn, that's new and original!"

It's all subjective when it comes to the arts. I hate all rap and hip hop music because I like certain instruments and appreciate the English language. Similarly I hate all country music because of the boring string arrangements and the lyrical content.

I've had much better experiences with rock music and couldn't care less about any other form of music. I feel the foundation of hip hop and rap is very weak and I don't imagine much value could come from it. Even if it did, I still don't like the style of music.

Also you compare the two in a way that simply isn't accurate, imo. If you were to ask a random person to name Rock stars, they would likely name great performers like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, The Who, etc. Ask me to name rap artists and I'd say 50 cent, Jay Z, M&M. Once again I'm being subjective, but the popular rock acts are so much better to me.

Also I would say popular rock music was quite good up until he 2000s. The grunge and alternative movements produced some highly respected groups. Sure there is always crap to sift through but that stuff doesn't overshadow the quality music in rock. I don't dislike Creed but I notice they get bashed a lot on the tubes so I'll use them as an example. Creed doesn't overshadow Radiohead or Pearl Jam. If there is any decent hip hop I haven't so much as seen or heard a glimpse of it.

Its all subjective. On one side of rap you have retards like will smith, the other extreme is lil wayne. In the middle there is some good tunes. I like ludacris, and tupac was a fkn poet. i enjoy the old g funk era stuff, dre, snoop, warren g... I like the sounds and beats from that brand of rap.

That has to be the worse reason I have ever seen
