My observations of Cam Newton's game

Firehouse is better than Subway but since it's more expensive and more people like it I'm going to say Subway is better and give my reasons (read: biased opinion) for how it is obviously better than Firehouse and anyone who knows food knows it's much better. But Firehouse was made to beat Subway so it's got the edge.

My take fwiw, Who passes the eyeball test? Neither QB was stellar. Cam to me looked more the part. But let's not kid ourselves he needs reps and lots of them. He's never going to be a Brady or Manning, but he has skills and size that pickles will never have. The best thing going for him is our two main weapons Smitty and Olsen can both make plays on balls that are not exactly placed well. He is basically Delhomme(03 version) on steroids.

:nopity: okay and you were saying

~[multi-quote of Cam's passing]

Your penchant for hyperbole aside your assessment was pretty close to what I saw, except I came away with a different feeling.

I took game notes maybe I'll do a breakdown later....

But, in general he missed some low percentage downfield throws x2 Olsen right sideline, Martin right sideline.

He hit Olsen on a seam for a big gain, imo played it too safe/cautious w/ that throw and I'm speculating here but I think Cam knows he missed a potential TD by the way he clapped his hands afterwards as if to say damn missed a big one.

Goalline good throw to LaFell but the DB made better effort for the ball then LaFell drop/broken up.(1)

Made some unwise decisions that forced him to attempt more difficult throws then neccesary and he missed the throws Nannee? Edwards,

Missed some hots that forced him to throw w/ pressure in the face causing poor throw to Bainbridge left (corner route), Bainbridge left flat

Missed Edwards on seam post (overthrown) under pressure had a hot open

On target 3 step slant rightside to Clowney drop/broken up (2)

Perfect Skinny post to Edwards dropped/broken up (3)

Nice seam route to Edwards

Miscommunication w/ Clowney on the comeback

On the whole I like what I saw.

He played like a rookie but his mistakes and his throwing mistakes were aggressive downfield throws; he wasn't the missing gimme plays.

His other mistakes liked missed hots and some unsound decision making can be coached.

But, Cam's ability to throw the ball downfield w/ velocity is evident.

Cam threw that bang 8(by all accounts a difficult throw) that Edwards dropped/was broken up about as well as any QB in the league and he made it look easy.

His ball to Edwards was easily the best pass he's ever thrown.

He has great arm strength but often negates it with his terrible mechanics.

I hoped this would be fixed with his off season 12 hour days but I guess not.

Not sure what they were working on down there.

You do love your hyperbole...

If you think Cam's mechanic's are 'terrible' then do you think its a reasonable expectation to fix them within one offseason?

Anyway I don't see 'terrible' mechanics at all.

I see a raw prospect that needs to hone his craft.

His throwing motion is naturally solid its compact and fluid but he needs to work on consistentency I see his shoulder rotation and follow through as areas for improvement.

His footwork needs work too, specifically his balance and weight transfer.

But, he's not unlike any other raw rookie QB prospects except for his arm cannon and dynamic playmaking ability with his feet.

If Cam can reaches his potential I see him as a mix of Flacco's arm with Josh Freeman's playmaking.

Well, I expected at least some improvement since he was working 12 hours a day on the field all off season.

What was he doing out there?

You think his ceiling is a combo of Flacco and Freeman? Mediocrity here we come.

Dude was a #1 pick. He shouldn't be the same as other raw rookie QB prospects. Colin K was a project. Pat Devlin is a project. Dennis Dixon.

He's the best option for this team at QB, but honestly that's not saying much.

He still has a long way to go.

Can everybody please just agree with this and let it play out? We should have relatively low expectations with shortened preseason. Nobody's predictions are withashit.
