Jimmy Clausen

After the first two drives I thought to my self "Oh fug here we go again"

But then his third drive he actually looked like and NFL QB

He needs a little confidence and some decent play calling and he can be a decent player in the league.

Did Jimmy get a hang nail also..Sheesh, talk about finding excuses.

Your excuses are starting to sound like a mother who is in denial that her son stinks.

Thank God Jimmy is a good QB.

The main problem with you Cam nut huggers is that if someone says anything good about Jimmy, then to yall, they must be saying something bad about Cam.

Chill out. Everyone here thought that Cam looked great, JC looked good to. No reason to get your panties all wadded up over it.

jimmy clausen is who we thought he was a practice player and a lost gamer. how you people can still root for him is beyond me

Anybody who thought Clausen was a 'lost gamer' whatever the fug that means, made a stupid judgment from a pooty year when everyone sucked. It's people like you who are booing at our games, TC and preseason. fuging disgusting, I root for CLausen becasue as of now he is our fuging starting QB. You sound like a Falcons fan. Yea I said it.

Now we're blaming Mother Nature for Clausen's playing last night too...:D

Clausen was better in ur mind cause he redeemed himself with a TD..Good thing he did cause he gave a free and easy one to the Giants. Just imagine if they didn't get that gift from Clausen, the score would have been worst.

Wouldn't be surprised if Tom Coughlin is sending Clausen a "thank you" note as I type. He saved them from embarrasment. Let's be real.

I watched the game. Let us not make more out of what Jimmy did than need be. Jimmy played well. He redeemed himself by putting some points on the board for the Panters with a TD right after his gift to the Giant.

Maybe Calusen should have done what Cam did and helped his team a little by blocking the reciver who caught his bad throw. Now that, IMO, would have been a sight to be seen.

The TD is not the only reason I think Clausen played better. And I wasn't blaming mother nature. Inf fact, just the opposite. Clausen played better DESPITE playing in the rain. Its called objective analysis. Clausen played better, numbers show it and the results of the game showed it.

I think Newton made some bad decisions that will hopefully get better with experience. The throws to Lafell in the end zone should not have been made, because Lafell was not open. Fortunately, they were relatively low, or they might have been picked off.

I don't particularly care who the Qback is, I just want the team to win. It can be Newton, Clausen, or Anderson. Heck, it can be Jordan Gross for all I care as long as whomever it is, gives us the best chance to win. But I think that anyone that looks at last nights performance objectively will say that Clausen performed better.

footballisasport has been on a rampage about Clausen vs Cam since last night.

Probably a fanboy.

I was actually impressed by Newton last night. Thought he looked good for a rookie. Despite questions about his accuracy, most of his throws were on target. He made some questionable decisions, but that comes with the territory. Had some drops as well, and not a bit surprised that his best throw of the night was to Olsen (who looked great imo).

And fwiw, I don't think Jimmy was great last night. The only QB that looked great at anytime on the field was Anderson, and he is a former NFL starter going up against scrubs, so he should look better.

First off, i dont think Clausen did better than Newton or vise versa. in my book it was a draw. both made good moves and bad moves. i cant see how some think Anderson had a better game, he almost threw an interception and his TD was a short pass tha the WR did most of the work on, he didnt have a bad game, but i think Clausen and Newton played better.

Newton almost threw a couple as well, and Clausen did throw one. Truth is that you could look at virtually every QB in the NFL and see a couple of times a game when they "almost" threw an int. Almost getting an interception will almost get you a win.

Is that the excuse that you have settled on?

Did you realize that the Gaint player got to the ball before William even turned around. Why are we sitting here justifying why we're picking apart a kid who didn't buckle under pressure like the media kept alleging all throughout his draft, while sitting there defending what was clear a short throw by Jimmy.

Don't hear you making excuses for Cam even when it was clear that he only misfired on two or three balls and the others were the clear mistake of the OL.

What? Jimmy passed where he could and Williams could have gotten around to catch it or bat it away if needed. I believe I said that I make those plays all the time when I'm playing with friends. Simple move really.

I'm not making excuses for Jimmy because it's Jimmy, in fact I'm not making excuses at all. I was calling the play how I saw it. I've mentioned one play, one, haven't talked about any other or anything like that.

How can you tell whether I am making excuses or not from saying what I saw on that play?

    • OK, so this is a bit weird.  When I coached at Salisbury High School when I first started teaching, I used to go over to Catawba College to watch film and talk football with their coaches.  They were great. Curtis, Jalon's father, I assume, was a LB at Catawba and hired as LB coach by Bennett When Coastal started their program, they hired Catawba's coach Bennett.  Bennett must have taken Jalen's father with him to Coastal. I am guessing that is about the time Jalon was born and why he was in Conway. So then his father comes back to Salisbury after Jalen is born and takes the head coaching job. Jalen is a good interview.  I love the kid based on this, and I have heard good things from former colleagues of FB.  Salibury (when I was there) was a very rough school.  Gangs, drugs, etc.  To put it in perspective, I was there for 2.5 years and I had four (4) students in my class (at different times) who committed murder during that time. A girl was raped in the gym by a few boys.  One night, after a game (there is a road between the coaches offices in the gym and the rest of the school) the coaches watched film until 1 AM or so.  When we were leaving to walk to our cars parked across that street, we noticed a car sitting in the middle of the road about 100 yards away with its lights off.  The driver took off when we neared the street, so we all hit the ground.  As the car passed, we heard about 6 or 7 gunshots.  The next day, the van behind where we fell to the ground had 2 bullet holes in it, about 5 feet above the ground.  All that to say this:  If the young man on the video endured anything like that, I want him to succeed and I found it interesting that he mentioned playing for the Panthers.  I am not sold on the player as a fit here based on our needs, but I am sold on the person.  Very proud of him for some reason that many may not understand.
    • First off, he's not even eligible for a contract yet.  You have to play three years. And thank goodness! All we saw last year were glimpses.  Yes, those glimpses were enough that I think every fan wants to see him come back next year.  But bottom line is that so far, with only a couple games worth of exceptions, he hasn't yet shown that he's a FRANCHISE QB.  He hasn't shown the consistent ability to elevate the players around him. He could be the guy.  After week two of this year, just saying that much is a massive, massive positive swing.  But let's see him put it together for 17 games.  Let's see him make the people around him BETTER.  Then we can talk about extending him. Let's not lose sight of the fact that thus far in his career, in no season has BY exceeded the rookie stats of MAC JONES. We should  be excited for the possibility, but we certainly haven't seen yet what we need to see to declare we have our guy.
    • People cared as it was happening, but after a year or two, most people had moved on. There was no public outcry to bring the NBA back to Charlotte, it just happened.
