Jimmy Clausen

Backup OL isn't going to provide the same protection as the starting OL even if the blitzers are 2nd string IMO.

All in all, with what Cam did in 2 weeks of prep it indicates he should quickly surpass Clausen....even if you give Clausen the edge on Sat.

Cool and we shall see. :)

1) He had 3 picks, so he had at least three bad throws.

2) Higher QB rating yes, but acceptable? 50 is higher that 45, but both suck.

Again up to the interpretation of the reader.

1- no it doesn't....3 great balls can bounce of WRs hands and up in the air to be picked. great throw....QB is portrayed on the stat sheet as making a poor throw.

2- Clausen had a much higher QB rating in the saints game last year heading into the 4th.....it was so comical that the announcers pointed it out. Not talking about 50 vs 40.

Stats often lie or tell part of a story.

Exactly, it's almost unanimous that Jimmy is looking solid, but it's almost moronic to believe that Jimmy is a notch above Cam. Jimmy will be a great competition to Cam, and I believe that the starter of week one will more or less come down to 3rd preseason game, but I've no doubt Cam will more or less be the Day 1 starter come 9/11.

I'm rooting for the best QB to win, but some of the arguments for Jimmy are 'reaches' at best.

Hell, just read ncbobcat's entire argument come down to 'stats' .

uh, not always for example, if it's a good pass that the WR had his hands on, but doesnt catches it and bats it in the air. that happened alot to Eli Manning last year.

That indicates to me that he's throwing high. Should NFL calibre WRs be able to catch those types of throws? Sure, but if he would hit them in the numbers, there would be fewer of these instances.

I get your point, however you are emphasizing the exception rather than the rule. For every instance where a QB throws a couple of tip balls for INTs, 10 more are legit bad passes that is owned by the QB.

My entire argument? Why do you try so hard? Sorry, learned that line earlier tonight.

I too am routing for the best QB to win. I think it's about a tie now. It would not hurt my feelings a bit if Cam won the opening day job, but I have a feeling you secretly would want to commit suppuku if Jimmy does. Just a hunch.....

So if two QBs are tied.....

And 1 has a full preseason, full season with 13 games, 10 starts, and 2 weeks of camp under his belt with the new staff

Vs.

A rookie who has 2 weeks of camp under his belt

..........is that really a tie?

As long as it's between Newton and Clausen i am happy. i know people like Anderson and how he knows the offense, but i just cant get his last years out of my mind. i like letting the young QBs get the reps.

Reading too much into it man. A tie is a tie. Does it say Cam is doing a good job getting up to speed? Sure and kudos to him. Does he look like he's running away with the QB competition? No, not at all. If Cam starts and get spanked on opening day, does that speedy two weeks study mean a hill of beans? Nope, not so much.

I thought Clausen had a good game compared to last season. He passed downfield more which impressed me. The TD was thrown where only Olsen could catch it so that was another positive. The pick 6 looked like a miscommunication between him and Williams so they should get that worked out. Hopefully he continues to improve.

Jimmy has a new coaching staff and is getting introduced to a new system, so is Cam. Jimmy might as well be a rookie.
