Cams passing observations

I liked what I saw. Above average for a rookie QB in his first preseason game, I would say. The throwing off of his back foot was due partly to him being a rookie and partly due to the rush he was facing. He saw a man down field he could have gotten it to, but the rush prevented him from stepping into it. Put the first team OL out there, and he may have thrown a couple TDs. Just sayin'. Not trying to make excuses, but just like Jimmy's pick wasn't due to a terrible throw, Cam's issue of throwing off his back foot isn't ALL Cam. I will say, Cam needs to work on that. And I think he will throw it before the rush gets that close because he will know his receivers better and know where they will break the route and expect the ball. It's called chemistry. He has some with Armanti it seems, and he will build it with everybody over the course of the season.

Bottom line, I felt better when Cam was on the field as opposed to Jimmy. Jimmy's first throw was beautiful. The pick, while stressful to watch, was nothing more than miscommunication and/or timing. Not a huge issue in the preseason. The rest of his throws (besides the TD, which was very nice) were "eh" at best. Overthrows, holding the ball too long, and scrambling when he shouldn't, which ended up in sacks. I give Cam a SLIGHT edge this game as far as play (which could be due to the fact that Cam played longer, mind you). As far as presence on the field goes, Cam wins in a blowout.

Cam could've stepped into one or two of those back foot throws but didn't. I don't blame him for it because, just like you said, he is a rookie.

As far as Jimmy I wouldn't say I'm overly impressed, but I feel he has better decision making and has a more mature mentality to the position at this point than Cam, which he should considering he is a second year player. Cam has way more potential but Jimmy can hold it down as long as he doesn't throw stupid picks like that.

What I find so funny about the over-criticizing of Cam is, everything is his fauly. When it's clearly the case of the receivers not holding on to the ball, some are still trying to find a way to put the blame on Cam.Amazing

I saw on a number of occasions where Cam threw the ball and they were either fumbled or not caught when they should have been.

I agree. He steps into the throw to Armanti down the middle, that's an easy TD. Forgot that when mentioning him throwing off his back foot. There was another throw similar where he could have and didn't. I also agree with the first sentence about Jimmy. He does look better at decision making. Mentally, he just didn't look like he was there. I mean, it wasn't his play, just his demeanor. Maybe it was the boos got under his skin, maybe he was just REALLY focused. IDK. He didn't show the same intensity Cam, or even Anderson showed on the field.

Well, there are a couple reasons for this:

1) Some people REALLY didn't want us to take Cam. They are going to pick apart every small mistake (even those that can be expected when it comes to rookie QBs).

2) Some people have too high of expectations for Cam. When he doesn't go out and blow us all away, they bitch.

3) Some people just don't understand the QB position, or the game for that matter.

I haven't seen too many posts that you are speaking of, but I am sure they are on here. There's an idiot in every bunch; at least, according to my grandpa.

lol, nobody is saying that. If anything, it's the opposite.

Cam looked good tonight, he just needs to work on a few more things first.

He looked excellent, considering he's a 2-week rookie.

Killa Cam's arm strength is slept on. He was throwing some lasers tonight. Loved how comfortable he looked very promising considering he wasn't making plays with his legs tonight. He was chased and instead of trying to bowl over defenders or force a throw (like he may have gotten away with in college) he got rid of the football as he should. Unless he has a clear lane to run through, I see no reason why he should sacrifice his body especially in a preseason game.

He was comfortable. He made a couple throws off his back foot but those are correctable mistakes. By no means was he perfect but for his first action, he looked good.. had a nice snap on his fastball. I don't see Clausen lasting long.

I am a huge "Give Clausen one more year" supporter, with that said I really feel like Cam could very well take the QB spot. Both guys did great, but with Newton I had that "oh dam whats he about to do" feeling, in a good way lol.

My thoughts exactly. I have been an Auburn fan since 2004, my freshman year of high school. My defensive coordinator is from near Mobile, AL, and he is a huge AU fan. So, being the prodigy LB for him, they grew on me. Watching Cam last year, as a Tiger, I had that feeling. Tonight, while it wasn't as high (because I checked my emotions and expectations at the door), it was definitely there at times. Love it.

Cam was gunshy on the blitz. Turning away from several throws rather than standing tall in the pocket. He underthrew a number of balls and threw behind on several others. Wasn't terrible by any means but he seems to still need quite a bit of adjusting to the speed of the NFL. He had a chance at a few TD passes with better throws. He seemed to get rid of the ball quickly and didn't really target a receiver he shouldn't have. Not spectacular by any means but not terrible. Looked like any other rookie.

No one has over-criticized Cam tonight unless it was several hours ago in threads I didn't read. If anything, you're being too hard on the receivers.

I think that might just be the way Jimmy is. He looked the same as he did last year to me but I thought he played better.
