Cams passing observations

Cam looked like he was making a conscious effort to hear that clock in his head and get the ball out quick, which is great. Jimmy would get to that 2-3 second mark, and then break the hell out.

As Jangler says, and I saw it too, lots of throws off the back foot, not much stepping into the throw, but they still come out with steam on a line to the WR.

Those might have been passes he should have thought about running. But he didn't look like he wanted to run all night, which is good.

Cam look better then I thought he would have look. Still needs a lot of work an improving on throws. He surprise me he didnt run not one time thats was a really good thing.Jimmy looked a lil shakey at first but then he got his groove back. Cam trew a lot of pass my grandma would have caught in her sleep. We need help at WR bad.

Both QB's looked great. However, there is a drastic difference in both players playing styles. Cam cleans up his flaws a bit (ie: blitz reading) he should be starting soon.

Jimmy also looked good tonight, especially on that scoring drive, however he still held onto the ball too long. It's no surprise that's where a majority of last years sacks came from.

Throwing wise there are no winners or one-uppers here, Cam has a rifle of an arm, and his accuracy is just as good as any in this league, he just lacks finesse.

Jimmy seemingly has the finesse, and better experience of the two, but lacks a relatively strong arm, which the int showed (yes Deangelo played a part in the int too)

I'm loving the depth we have at all of our positions this year. Now I see why TD, and Rivera are proudly claiming that this team has the potential to post a winning season.

throwing off of his back foot.

this. it can be corrected though in practice. i expect him and shula to use this game tape and go over footwork and work on that. won't last too long if you keep throwing off your back foot like newton did throughout the game. I just mostly noticed this on the short throws though.

Have you seen Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers throw?

I didn't watch the complete game yet, however it looked to me a lot of his back foot throws were because he was under duress. Could be wrong though.

That is what I thought at first but I think it had more to do with him thinking he was under duress. He should've planted and stepped into his throw. I don't fault him though. He will be more sure about it next game and won't have as much trouble with it.

Newton was held back this game to just focus on his passing people have yet to see his running ability nfl style

I loved both his and Rivera's approach to this game. Cam chose to throw the ball in several opportunities when he could have easily rolled out and gained 5.

That's how the good get better.

It didn't look like he wanted to run either, though (which I like). It looked like he was told to not run at all, or he wanted to stand in there and pass.

    • I am perplexed by this "Bo Nix strong arm" thing. I am not sure if many people saw him in college, in the combine or certainly the NFL but he does not have anywhere near a "strong" NFL arm. Very much closer to average, if not squarely average.
    • Yeah, he gets credit for trying. He does. But I don't see any way he can really be a pocket QB because he is so damned short and small I don't feel like he can see the field without having throwing lanes like, between the tall people. And I never objected to his size, fragility wise - because I never made it that far to worry about that - but if he is gonna sack up and take the hits for stepping into the throws I don't know how long that will work.  And I feel like Canales has to x out so many potential calls because of one limitation or the other; we don't have a fully diverse passing offense with him back there. It is limited.
