Mallett/Gabbert/Cam/Ponder/Locker

You have a lot of "wisdom" for a child and you still haven't even figured out the question.

You're so busy attacking me like this is a negative about Cam that you can't see the easy questions that are staring you in the face.

They are simple questions, but you add layers to them like they are supposed to get a specific answer.

No, but if he is bad for 3 seasons and Mallet is killing it for 3 preseasons and in some spot relief duty then Cam has a good 4th year did we make the right choice?

that's quite a variable. I'd say if he is bad for 3 seasons then prolly wont do much better his fourth. What other guys do in preseason has doesnt produce a quality argument in this case.

By then are Smitty, DWill, Stew, Beason, Gross, Kalil still in their prime?

I dont see what that has to do with Cam or his responsibility to that problem.

No, other dude brought it up like 4 times and this thread was NOT about that so I didn't know why he kept bringing that up.

It's about pressure to live up to expectations after seeing other rookies do well. He's never had expectations like this. He's always come from nowhere to steal the spotlight, now he's in it and he's not the big dog.

How we will interpret his performance? How will we compare the rookie QBs? How will the national media do it? Can he live up

Yep, I sensed an underlining jealousy in your postings disguised as a concerned fan. One doesn't have to be blind to recognize the unnecessary jealous energy that has been directed at this kid. It's like you need for him to fail as if to say his success isn't deserved. Why is that?

The only thing Cam should concern himself with or feel pressure about is doing everything he can to help his team get to the next level. Any other concern, IMO, is as stupid as they come.

It's clear you're very concerned with how ESPN will feel about Cam if he doesn't do well this weekend. Based on the underlining tone of your postings, you're hoping for Cam to fail and the media to attack him. That will teach him, RIGHT!!!

I can't really begin to circle around an answer that you would like, because I haven't seen Cam, Locker, or Ponder play yet. Once I see all of the major rookie quarterback's in their first preseason game, then I will get back to you.

Right now, I wouldn't say Cam is feeling to much pressure from the way the others have performed.

Mallet did play very well, but like others have said it wasn't against great competition (even though Cam, Locker, and Ponder will be playing against the same second and third string competition this week.) However, Gabbert's competition was not much better than Mallet's due to the players that the Patriots held out of the game, it was probably slightly better than the competition Mallet faced... but I would still give Mallet the edge so far; just because he came out rolling on all cylinders.

Nonetheless, if a rookie quarterback has not thrown an interception before the kickoff of the Panthers first preseason game, I would expect there to be a slight bit of pressure on Cam to not to be the first (maybe 10%), because let's be honest, no one want's to be the first to do that.

What are you talking about?

I never said he didn't earn anything, in fact, he's been so good at other levels that he's always been the man, that's a compliment.

You guys try so hard to make me a "hater" of Cam that you read things that aren't even in my psosts

So if he managed to win the Heisman and a national championship with that kind of pressure, I am fully confident that he will do well in the NFL.

Trust me. Those are points you don't want to use in a pro-Newton argument.

Take a look at the past twenty years worth of Heisman and National Championship quarterbacks. You'll find one NFL failure after another and only a very few successes.

The last thing any Panther fan wants is for Newton to follow that trend.

That's the best answers you've posted in this thread.

How hard was that? You directly responded to the questions on the topic and even gave a little bit of your own opinion.

Great response.

I would think he HAS to feel some added pressure if the rookies ahead of him play well, considering how much debate there was pre draft, how he was the #1 pick, how he is one of the only guys to have a chance to start, etc.

How he handles that pressure is debatable, some say great, some say it's unknown at this point, but that's all meaningless right now.

If he doesn't perform similarly to the other guys, he/we could get blasted everywehre.
