The $4 million-and-over club

Wharton is a damn near elite LG, however I would like to see his contract restructured.

Gamble is along the same lines, hopefully we sign Kalil to a deal soon and see that number go down.

Kalil will probably get around 5 year 30-40 million dollar contract, bringing our cap space down 4-5 million. Gamble's contract MUST be reconstructed. Wharton has pretty much earned his money.

Gamble is a strong number 2 corner on most teams in the NFL. If he is going to be shadowing other teams #1 receivers, he's going to have his hands full this year:

Roddy White (2), Marques Colston(2), Mike Williams(2), Fitzgerald, Jennings, Calvin Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Andre Johnson

Gamble is probably a top 10 CB in the league and would be the 1 on most teams in the league. He's going to have his hands full for sure, but he's up to the task, particularly with a good rush.

Wasn't Wharton penciled in as our starting LT when he got that contract?
nope. The panthers management and coaches already planned to move him inside to guard. Wharton is worth his contract. A very good guard, that can also play either tackle position. Good luck getting a player as good as him for even the same money he's earning.

I was just reading over this...I hope we make some changes come next year, I dont see how we will have any cap room in the future.

Sadly I agree with this. The Panthers are something like 30 million higher than any other team for next years cap. We have not had a top tier team for a while, yet have the highest cap, by far? (It reminds me of how the 49rs mishandled their cap back in the late 80's early 90's)

Maybe things work out? I know we have some very talented players, but we are still far from a complete team...see DL, WR, DB. The top tier teams need to replace part of their core (the high priced guys) before they put themselves in this bind (see the Colt, Patriots, Packers, etc).

We have an OL who's listed as #3 in the league (awesome), but I'd like to see a cost comparision of those lines too...once Kalil re-signs, ours will probably be the highest paid...& that is not a good thing.

I think there will have to be moves that we don't like (such as trading J. Stew...just being realistic...I absolutely love D-Will, but he is way overpaid) to complete are competitive team. I'm usually very optimistic, but am starting to think that we will be lucky to have an 8-8 team this year & if that happens, can we trust Hurney to fill DL & WR through the draft (cheap players)? He has not done a very good job of that for years with those positions.

If Cam gets the Panthers to the playoffs this year, he should try to get a new contract. I think Cam is going to be better than Sam Bradford.

Bradford is the last of the lottery winner NFL draft picks. He got a monster contract for $78 million over 6 years with $50 million guaranteed. If he gets all the incentives, he could make up to $86 million over 6 years. That's WAAAAY more than Cam's contract.

Firstly, the NFL playoffs for us this year is a pipe dream, secondly he WILL keep his current contract till the 4th year of it.

How do you know that Cam will keep his original rookie contract? They say NFL contracts are pretty much written on toilet paper. They get changed all the time.

Shouldn't Cam get paid like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning if he puts up stats and wins games like they do? The NFL is all about performance on the field isn't it?

By the way, Panthers fans should be more optimistic about their playoff chances. Auburn wouldn't have have won the national championship without Cam Newton. They would have probably lost 3 games without him. No question about it. Cam and defensive tackle Nick Fairley were absolutely critical to the team.

You'll see. If the rest of the team is playing at their highest levels along with Cam, the Panthers really do have a decent shot at the playoffs. Seriously.

Cam's personality will inspire the rest of the team to play hard. Trust me. He's a good leader. He'll keep them fired up.

The reason, is the owners will not allow all of their fighting to go for not. Why go through all of this if they don't stick to it & spend the $ on the veterans?

Gamble earned his, IMO.

Sure has. A lot of people give him crap, it confuses me. Forget about looking it in terms of being overpaid. How bad of an impact would it be to lose gamble? This defense would collapse, quick. Gamble is paid like that because all the pressure is on him, he's a vet and he can handle it on an above average level. Without Gamble, in the NFC south, we'd go no where. There isn't anyone else available that is better either, and there really never is every year. You don't know what you have until it's gone.

I think he is an above average guard, but he is a little bit injury prone. He got LT money but it a guard. I think him and Gamble should be restructurred. THis is coming from a guy who has a Wharton jersey. I am a huge Wharton fan.

I lol'd at that.... Who the hell has a wharton jersey? Lmao

Wharton? Really?
