I shake my head at times at the behavior that gets them there. When I see huge people at a table eating enormous amounts of food and then I watch them waddle out the restaurant and they seem almost out of breathe from the short walk to the door. Well it's just sad.

The majority of people that are overweight aren't overweight because they can't help it, it's because they take in a lot more calories then they burn.

Also, i get poo from people for being "too skinny" or "caring too much" because I work out. It goes both ways. I have former girlfriends who started treating me like poo and making fun of me for ordering diet coke or a small meal at lunch. Apparently they thought it was an indication that i thought they were fat.:confused:

But they were, weren't they? Not saying you implied it, but I can imagine who would think you were calling them fat simply by your having the audacity to make healthy food choices :).

Sadly its not just one girl that's done it, but I'm sure you r thinking of one of them. Btw our husbands don't hang anymore because he isn't allowed to be around me unless she is there and my man got fed up with that rule. Smh...crazy bitch

My daughter has been pudgy since about 4th grade. She was definitely overweight, but not obese. Shopping for her was a nightmare because nothing fit. She wouldn't wear a bathing suit or shorts. Hell, she wore a hoodie even during the summer.

This spring and summer, she's dropped something like 30/40 lbs. She's down 4 jeans sizes and is in a med shirt. She also hit a growth spurt and grew a couple of inches. Boobs appeared overnight. We have boys noticing her now, including my son's high school friends. (She's 13 now, but looks a little older) I'm almost embarrassed to admit how much I've spent on her this summer for clothes. I think I've been trying to make up for her not being able to wear anything.

The only thing she's done different is not eating when she's bored. She also doesn't eat as much. She's still losing weight, just more slowly now. We also got her a membership to our gym, and she'll start going next week.

The most important thing about her losing the weight is what it's done for her self esteem and confidence.

She's still stuck on that huh? I feel bad for A. That sucks that he's basically lost one of his best friends to a crazy person. :/

I had a major problem with my weight as a kid. I actually weighed in at the upper 260s in middle school. If you think people are mean as adults, its worse for kids and the constant bullying goes a long way for motivation. I lost about 70lbs midway through high school and have never looked back. Hell, the people that picked on me probably wish they were in the shape I am now.

It's the persons choice how they take care of themselves, but I'll admit it annoys me to see an overweight couple with an overweight child just because I know what that kids going to go through. It's hard to stand up to your parents when you are young and say I have to start eating better but it changed my life.

Curious, does it annoy you because you are thinking about the poo they probably have to put up with in school?

Or does it annoy you because they are living a unhealthy life, one that can continue to add bad habits and increase health risks for their future?

Honestly, more of the first. Kids can be the harshest because they don't even really know what they are saying and at that age it can really mess you up and lead to even more problems. Its something that can either bring you down further or make you want to change. The problem is the latter is much harder to do.

But I'm sure its some of the second as well, its pretty damn scary how kids are getting diagnosed with diseases and body damage younger and younger due to their weight. It's just not the first thing that comes to mind when I see it, but thats probably because its something that didn't effect me as directly as the bullying...and I'm lucky for that.

I think you have the choice sooner or later to live a healthier lifestyle if thats what you want, but it's in the parents hands when they are young as they are the examples and I can imagine would lead to some pretty hard choices in parent hood..

I really hate when those skinny people with high metabolism point out fat people, while they themselves eat 10 chicken fingers and soda/beer while not exercising or doing anything. As if it is the fat person's fault they don't have that metabolism.

And to whomever said the comment about bulimia and stuff being accepted as a condition but not obese/over-eating person, you hit the nail on the head. Typical of the media/people.

Teh medias!1

there are literally hundreds of shows dedicated to the "disease" of obesity. around half of our population is overweight. i honestly don't understand how it can be more socially accepted than that other than strangers stopping on the street to hold your hand while you down ice cream cones.
