Weightist...

I would never say anything negative to a person because of their weight, but people do tend to look down on overweight people. They are seen as someone who can't control themselves, even though that is not the only reason people are overweight.

A lot of it also depends on how an overweight person presents themselves... the type of clothes they wear etc. If you are 75 lbs overweight and wear tight pants and let your belly hang over with a short shirt on (aka people of walmart), aren't you kind of asking for some ridicule?

This.

I wouldn;t pick on someone for being voer weight, hell why would anyone.

However, if an overweight person is wearing the tightest clothes, or stuff with bare midriffs, or short shorts, tank tops with the glitter word sexy across it,etc etc out in public, I mean come on. Just dress like a normal person.

I look down on severely overweight people. Especially when they have handicapped parking stickers and can't do their shopping without the aid of a hover round.

I used to carpool with this lady to my old job. She was an overweight slob to the fullest. Not trying to be mean but she just brought it upon her self. it was Ludacris how self centered she was. She refused to park in the normal employee lot, through a hissy fit too managment and got a fake drs note saying she had a disability even though she didnt so she could park literally about 25 feet closer in a lot across the street. It was such a big deal she made me miss a drs appointment because she was whining so much. She shoveled down plates of food at lunch and then snacked at her desk all day. She would then waddle back to her van in the handicap lot, where she was practically parked on the sidewalk to gain an extra 5 feet closer to the building, huffing and puffing the whole time. And to make it worse all she did was complain about other people being lazy or selfish on our drive into work.

Needless to say the carpool didn't last too long.

Im obese but I never use it as a crutch. I get around just like anyone else. I hike, I bike, I do whatever I want. I might sweat alot more doing it but I have never looked at it like a handicap. I did this to myself and I just really like food. I blame the damn food network, and myself of course. I dont go to the doctor, I dont have high blood pressure, I dont have diabetes, Im just huge. I also make sure on a plane I get an aisle seat and I really sit as uncomfortable as I can so the person next to me doesnt feel cramped. Plus I never really cared about what I looked like obviously with all my tattoos. I try not to dress where my belly hangs out of my shirt, and I never ever had a problem going out with any woman I wanted. I think its all in how you present yourself. Sometimes little kids make rude remarks but hell they call it like they see it.

I shake my head at times at the behavior that gets them there. When I see huge people at a table eating enormous amounts of food and then I watch them waddle out the restaurant and they seem almost out of breathe from the short walk to the door. Well it's just sad.

The majority of people that are overweight aren't overweight because they can't help it, it's because they take in a lot more calories then they burn.

Also, i get poo from people for being "too skinny" or "caring too much" because I work out. It goes both ways. I have former girlfriends who started treating me like poo and making fun of me for ordering diet coke or a small meal at lunch. Apparently they thought it was an indication that i thought they were fat.:confused:

I don't look down on anyone for physical reasons.

I mean hell I could afford to lose a few myself so who am I to judge?

Same here.

I have been on both sides of this. In my youth, up until about age 25 or so, I was 6-3 and weighed about 160 lbs. Skinny as a rail. Starting gaining weight, and by age 30, I was 220lbs, but very fit because I was in the military and worked out a lot. After passing the age of 35, I started to gain more weight, and didn't work out as much, so now I am probably 20-25 lbs overweight for my height. Its not that easy to control for some people, especially as one gets older. So no point in looking down or insulting someone because they are overweight.

i could lose a few pounds too, and i'm doing things to make that happen. obese people who don't make efforts are the ones that i kinda look down on. not ones with legitimate reasons for it.

I agree and I fall into that category. I am conscious of the choices (good or bad) that I make and know the consequences. It's as simple as calories in vs calories out. Now knowing and doing are two different things.

You are different because you could "lose" a few pounds. Sounds easier when it's only a few pounds. Now think of someone who could stand to "lose" a few hundred pounds. It's a much more than not eating fries for a week ...it's a 100% lifestyle change.

Also people medicate with food. They also can be addicted to it. Again the difference between food addiction and heroin, smoking, and booze is we all need food to survive so there it sits in front of them.

I get pissed when I see someone in a rascal binge eating. They are basically killing themselves slowly and have given up on life and hope. It's really more sad than anything else.

I have encountered this before... people ask how much I go to the gym, and when I reply at least 5 days a week, I've gotten reactions like that... as if I'm vain or overly concerned with looks. It's not about that... it's about feeling good and being strong for me. Usually that type of reaction is from insecure people.

I like to eat too much too, but I work hard so that it doesn't show as much.

This

But I also don't mind admitting that I like looking hot. My husband likes it, it makes me more confident and it makes shopping for clothes more fun. Some people say caring about the way you look makes you shallow but that's not all I care about but I do derive some happiness from it.
