Gettis done for the season

Went to bed not knowing the outcome of the injury and woke up to this garbage about Gettis.... grrrrr. I know the season is a crap shoot and 6-10 is probably the best outcome, so it's not really the "make-or-break" part about Gettis. Instead, I'm just more concerned about long-term setbacks to his skillset as being a downfield "big body" threat, as well as emerging as our #2 and chemistry with Newton. Get well Gettis, you were one of the few bright spots to last year's season.

That's similar to the first thing that crossed my mind when I heard the details of the injury. "Is he ever going to fully recover from this or will he be just another promising talent that had an injury that he never recovers his speed and cutting ability from and goes down in Panther history as another coulda-shoulda-woulda?"

As the song states in the crucifiction scene in Monty Python's "LIfe of Brian", Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

So here goes: If we were going to lose a starter, the #2 WR spot is the position I might have chosen. We lost a deep threat opposite Smith, but the others are not what I would call a step down. In fact, there are up to 4 players who could play that spot. Naanee had modest numbers last season, but Rivers spreads it around very well, and there were 2 WRs who were PR's primary targets. Lafell, if he learns to catch..., Edwards could be exciting, and Pilares has had a good camp. I am thinking Naanee will get the job. Lafell will back him up, and Pilares and Armanti will play the third WR.

Glad this was not at LT, LG, C, RG, RT, CB, LB, DT, DE, etc. It would be harder to overcome.

Maybe since he's is out for the year, Gettis could talk to Cam about getting his #12 jersey. Cam should be wearing a real QB number like #12 if he can't get his #2 that he wore in college.

It's way better than #1. Tom Brady wears #12. Lots of famous QBs have worn #12. Cam should continue that tradition. David Gettis should be wearing a classic wide receiver number anyway. A number in the 80s. #84 or something.

...I hope that is either a joke post or the worst attempted trolling ever.

What? About Cam's jersey number? Believe me, I feel bad about Gettis getting injured. We need all the good receivers we can get. I think Gettis would look better in a classic wide receiver number ... in the 80s.

This sucks but is it a blessing in disguise? Now with Gettis gone another roster spot just opened up at WR. This could give some of the younger players a whole year to prove themselves. Assuming we don't sign or trade for another WR, Armanti Edwards and Kealoha Pilares should get some solid playing time. This is also great news for David Clowney who was more than likely the odd man out at Receiver.

I feel confident with the players we have now at Receiver, I believe that we need to give Edwards and Pilares plenty of playing time so we can develop them. Both guys have potential to be big play making wide receivers but they will never be able to prove themselves being buried in the depth charts. This will give them the time they need.

Maybe good for Clowney, not good for the Panthers. Gettis >>> Clowney

True but you never know, maybe one of the WR's that replace Gettis ends up becoming the starter, or even a Pro bowler. Crazier things have happened in the NFL.

I honestly think his injury has some advantages. Gettis will be back next year and hopefully the injury wont affect his career.
