If I was head coach...

Fail? seriously people still say that..

Quarterback play is mental and deep inside clausens head he knows that the guys on the defensive line don't want to break him plain and simple. While wearing that red jersey jimmy knows he has a personal shield and can focus more on his recievers then the defense coming straight at him.

I like jimmy i want him to be successful but i'll reserve my judgement till gametime when the lights are on and he's not wearing that red jersey.

Oh noez you made fun of me saying fail what will I do....Doesn't Cam know those same things?? Or is he just mentally stronger?? Who is to say Cam won't fold under the pressure to. The only time we've seen Cam play with the lights on is in a very QB friendly college offense. Again I'm not saying Jimmy is better then Cam, I don't think he is but we know nothing about what Cam is going to do against a real NFL defense so to say that he's going to outperform Clausen is just ignorant at this point....

i agree.

not only that, I would tell Cam he couldn't throw anything over about 15 yards downfield on certain days. Cam needs to work on dumping it off and the short routes.

yep. they are taking the wrong approach with both... well not the wrong approach but not what i would do.

for cam, he is coming off a year full of swaggar... best college football player on best team. they are setting himself up for a big confidence blow by not harping on taking care of the football. back to back picks in practice = gunslinger.

for jimmy, fox was a deer in the headlights and needs to get back to the confidence he had his last year at ND. he went from throwing 5 touchdowns in his last college game to 3 his entire first NFL season. he's capable of big plays he just needs to borrow some swaggar from cam.

If I was the head coach... I would have Jimmy take 20 snaps in a row every day in 7 on 7 drills with a rule being you must throw the ball over 10 yards.

I would tell him I do not care if he throws a pick. In fact, I would applaud on every throw no matter what the outcome.

Fox's paranoid persona has to be undone in Jimmy for him to succeed. Jimmy was absolutely scared to death of throwing a pick last season, so much so that he never took chances.

The only way to undo this is a healthy dose of the opposite. Encourage Jimmy Jam to take chances, because that whats winners do.

That is all.

Agreed.

I would also force Cam to make the check down more often. he believes that he needs to make the frozen rope perfect pass every time he drops back.

Both woudl benefit trememndously in this type of drill.

Seriously, Zod brings up a good point. But until they both see action under the lights I will hold judgment. I was only at camp one day and JC didn't throw a thing downfield, while Cam did....and yes, I know this has been well documented by others at camp.

Maybe we should bring Farve in for a day to be JC's personal QB coach.

Outstanding post! No way in hell do we know what he can or really can't do thanks to the assclown staff we had last year. I think he has a ton more ability and potential to be a good QB than what he has shown

I have said the same thing. In fact, I would not have the short routes even leave the LOS, just take a knee. That way, he HAS to throw the ball. He seems to be getting over his shyness, if Wed was any indication. This may be the first time he has really been challenged.
