A qb poll ....

Arron Rogers.

If Jimmy lights it up you let Cam sit and learn. You hold on to him as long as you can because with every passing month the game slows down that much more.

Beyond that, with the rookie salary structure there is no pressure to rush him into the fire. He can sit for a few seasons without breaking the bank.

Way different scenarios...Brett Favre was 37...Jimmy Clausen is 23 and can play for another 15 years...

My point wasn't how many candles go on the cake.

We've all known for years that QBs that had a chance to spend a season or 3 holding a clipboard are always better off. Give Cam that chance. Let him watch a successful QB run an offense and let him learn. With his rookike contract there is time and cap space to allow for it.

So if Jimmy lights it up, embrace the opportunity to groom our next QB and make the decision to play Cam or move on when we have to decide on that 5th year option on his contract.

So you move on with nothing instead of getting great value (as proposed in this hypothetical scenario)....didn't we already do that with Peppers...

Trading Newton is so ridiculous..

Not only noone would give you a first round because if you are ready to trade Newton for a first rounder you know something they don't and so noone will deal with you.

Anyway Newton is a Carolina Panthers QB, speaking of trading him after 2 weeks make you look like an hamburger eating surrender monkey.

Give this kid a year and let him play at time, then we will speak about him next season.

What the hell is a hamburger eating surrender monkey???

We trade both of them so we can draft Andrew Luck, since Luck is going to be better than Joe Montana, Michael Jordan, Mickey Mantle, Wayne Gretsky, Frank Sinatra, and Al Pacino combined.

Oh wait, that was the conversation on this board 6 months ago.

Wait this thread is about trading Cam when Jimmy lights it up this year. Do you honestly think that if any QB, not just Jimmy, puts up the kind of number in the OP that any team would trade them? Regardless of who is sitting behind them? WOW

Absolutely. Cam Newton is the future of this franchise. Clausen has the opportunity to become a Kevin Kolb. The difference is that the Panthers won't pay a backup QB with starting credentials $10mm+ a year when Clausen decides to hold out for a better contract or trade in 2012. Again.. all assuming he is lights out and of course this thread has already jinxed that lol.

    • Agreed on the last part. They can’t afford to lose all these games with Martin and Perets.
    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
