Panthers Camp: The Plot Thickens

I am glad Cam is experiencing some moments of failure now a couple of weeks into camp. It was inevitable that it would happen at some point this year, and will serve as a good reality check for him as a player and for us as fans. That said, I have little doubt he will overcome his limitations and become the complete package, given some time.

What I don't understand is the few posters on this forum that seem to take joy in his failings. I just don't get it. Maybe you didn't want him in the draft, but is it so important to your self-esteem that you would rather be right at the cost of a major loss for the team's progress? I just don't get it.

Only the idiots are taking joy in his failings.

I was NOT a big fan of drafting him....big risk for me.

However, I love what we have seen so far. He has performed better than I thought he woudl at this stage of the season.

I would love nothing more than for Cam to come out Day 1 in TC and be lighting it up. The fact that he is struggling at times says nothing more than he is a rookie QB who needs time to develop.

In time, I think he has the potential to be great.

Throw him out there right now and he will struggle...be an interception machine.

Hoping that JC or DA plays well as the starter....let Cam continue to learn/develop...and then turn the team over to him when he is ready.

Thing is, he didn't labor during one-read drills. In fact it's really the only thing he has excelled at thus far.

And you are right, so far he is exactly what most people said he was coming into camp, raw talent that will take time to develop. I don’t understand the need by some of these posters for Cam to start today when he hasn't played as well as the other QB's on the roster; yet!

so wait, u want to name a starter now? without watching any preseason? without watching more offense get installed?

wow

so wait, did I say that? wow

To be honest I mainly post to pick on nut huggers. I think Cam will be good. What I REALLY would like is for both QB's to be AWESOME.

I refuse to pick either one of them, I learned that lesson last year, but for every post like CRA makes there are the same amount making post the exact opposite. Every person here is bias in one fashion or another towards one player or another. Some more so than others. But there is no reason to keep bashing Jimmy and crowning Cam when they have pretty much looked roughly equal in practice. IMO I consider this to be rookie seasons for BOTH of these young guys and BOTH of them will have moments of grandure and moments of WTF was that!

Cam has that "wow" factor, Clausen is consistant. For some reason some fans have a hard time hoping both QB's do well.

For what its worth, after talking to my brother, Anderson with his limited reps looked really good last night. If he looks that good now, how will he look with a few practices under his belt? That is something all of us should keep in mind.

No doubt there are plenty of folks on here who have a bias. If you are only posting to argue against the bias however you are only fueling it in actuality. Anyone who does not want the best player to win the job over their favorite player, whomever he may be, is a ******* moron. And in accordance with known moronic behavior, you will likely have little luck in opening their eyes. Even if you did crack them just a little and allow some light into the cavernous recesses of their damaged psyches it would mean that you most likely had to take an equally moronic however completely opposite stance to do so. Just as it 'seems' you are headed for in this thread.

all of that = not worth it. Let them be dumb. It's OK.

I am 95% sure that Gettis has a torn MCL, and will be out for the season. Just talked to my grandfather-in-law whom is an orthopedic specialist, I told him about Gettis' knee buckling, and he is unable to put any weight on the leg. He said, if you were able to put 'some weight' on the leg and feel pain, it would be partially torn or sprained, but no weight at all is a very bad sign. Hope he's wrong, but I don't think he is.

He deduced that it's the MCL because the knee buckled, and didn't twist when it was injured. Take this with a grain of salt as it's just 1 doctors opinion without examining the patient.

very disturbing news, hope your grampa is wrong. Truly believe Gettis is a star in the making. Hope he's ok.

    • I'd give it a C mainly because of Brooks.  If we just didn't have a 2nd I'd argue B to B+ tbh. Brooks was a bad gamble, tho one that could still pay off long term. Yes XL only has 400 yards but... Look who is throwing him the ball. And I think he isn't a "true #1" but he's been able to consistently get open. Hands definitely need to be cleaned up.  But he should end the year with 500-600 yards. Like you said - Sanders looks great.  Get him a better QB / more time with a QB and I think he's gonna impress. We added a couple rotational players on D that have both made plays and show promise for the future from later rounds. So I'd say, Brooks really hurts this drafts grade. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next 3 years. I've overall really liked Morgan's FA acquisitions, so...
    • Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.
    • We're in a great position to see just how big of a misstep it would be, having made so many ourselves
