Panthers Camp: The Plot Thickens

Of course Cam will, he is the GREATEST OF ALL TIME

Never implied such.

But Clausen got slammed b/c he wouldn't attempt the throws.....not for being a one read QB (which is understandable to a large degree for all rookies).

Cam will attempt them....and probably attempt them when they aren't there for awhile.

Clausen is better under center, Cam is already a better QB operating out of the shotgun IMO without even playing a real snap.

May I ask what makes you think Cam is already better in the shotgun than Clausen is?

So....................he looked weak at his weaknesses?

In a couple years, I can see most qbs spending most of their time throwing out of the shotgun.

Tom Brady - 64% of pass attempts from shotgun

Vick 60%

Aaron Rodgers 65%

Rivers -61%

Cam will be just fine as he progresses. He is a shotgun QB. Granted he needs lots of days in practice like yesterday sucking it up under C to improve.

Have you watched Cam in the shotgun?

Cam already has the better tools by a wide margin......it lets him start his reads earlier and his glaring weakness is taken out of the equation.....and let's him take advantage of all his positives.

It is why every day in practice Cam has been making big plays downfield.

Actually, yes I have, after that comment the question is...have you ACTUALLY watched him? Cam hasn't made any more plays down field than Clausen has when taking last night into consideration. Clausen chewed Cam alive in both drills; under center and in the shotgun. You give Cam a lot more credit than he deserves right now. I think you base everything from what you read here on this site but let me give you and example of how it works for the two QB's

Cam:

Cam beautiful pass to Olsen, guy is going to be a beast

Same exact play - Jimmy

Olsen beautiful grab, guy si going to be a beast

Point is, I don't think you have actually watched a practice if so you only watched half of it.

Sure Cam has.....last night doesn't catch Jimmy up in that department. Last night factored in....Cam has still been much better going downfield so far in camp. Really impossible to argue otherwise. Jimmy did it one day....Cam has done it virtually every day except yesterday (and they were clearly working on his weaknesses that limited what he could do downfield).

Do you realize how many interceptions Cam has thrown to OUR CB so far? Are you counting those as completions? If not then again, have you actually watched him in the shotgut?

Oh hell let the worriers worry. Like he was ever gonna learn how to play under center without actually playing under center.

There is no reason to believe he is not everything we thought he was on draft day plus what we have learned since then about work ethic and some intangibles. Anyone surprised that the kid labored during one read drills or where he was not given the escapability comfort zone that the gun provides has not been paying attention and deserves no more attention today than they received last week.

Yes.

Again, Cam has gone downfield and been impressive most days but one.

Clausen did it one day.

INTs happen when you work in practice on that aspect of your game.....Jimmy ignoring those throws all camp but yesterday for the most part isn't better than throwing a few picks while making some excellent plays in the process.

Thing is, he didn't labor during one-read drills. In fact it's really the only thing he has excelled at thus far.

And you are right, so far he is exactly what most people said he was coming into camp, raw talent that will take time to develop. I don’t understand the need by some of these posters for Cam to start today when he hasn't played as well as the other QB's on the roster; yet!

b/c overall.......looking at the total camp....he has played just as well as Clausen. Different....but no worse.

Difference is what Cam does has a likely hood of providing more plays and moving an offense.....with some turnovers. Clausen overall has shown he most likely won't provide the turnovers but is less likely to move the offense.

I'm going to take it, since you won't answer the question, that you have NOT actually watched Cam in the shotgun or in any play for that matter.

IMO Cams footwork is terrible undercenter and in the Shotgun; especially under pressure. He panics and sails the ball a lot. Sometimes I wonder if the balls he throws downfield were actually meant to be check downs that he over throws...and no, I'm not being funny, he misses by that much! Cam will be good in time, I like what he is doing but I would not be surprised to see him third on the depth chart come September 11.

Actually, I haven't watched DA, but after listening to some people that went to practice yesterday,...Mad Hatter might be right

No he hasn't, Clausen has separated himself from Cam at this point by a bit. That can change during preseason games but right now I don't think there is any question about who should be starting if it were only between Cam and Jimmy
