A great read and follow up to what yesterday's practice ment.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Cursed. Doomed. Snake-bitten.

It’s just few hours removed from evening practice for the Carolina Panthers, and those are only three of the many characterizations chronicled by fans that are understandably eager for better days.

Why the gloom and doom? Well, amidst the progress of many young contributors, a pair of sobering events unfolded Wednesday:

1.Cam Newton misfired on some passes.

2.2nd year WR David Gettis was escorted to the locker room, via-cart.

This was interesting, and something that I did not get from reading tweets.

I am really glad Chud and Rivera are now getting his out of his comfort zone. This is what is going to help him grow.

Before fans hit the panic button, understand that Chudzinski did not cater to Newton’s comfort-zone last night. There were few one-read throws from 11/12 personnel packages. He spent more time working from a place he does not like—under center—than he did from his “happy place”, upright in the shotgun. I viewed this practice as a test for Newton—Rivera’s first grilling of his #1 pick. He didn’t pass this time, but he has plenty of tape to look at, which can be as valuable to a young QB as anything.

perfect example of how fans can put too much into one practice session....

He makes a good point on Cam.....they intentionally made Cam play to his weakness at practice yesterday and intentionally didn't dial up the type plays he is comfortable with and likely would be pushed when he played.

So it isn't that Cam just sucked.....they were working on the plays he was weak at.

Which was everything but one read plays? That doesn't sound good

No, Cam's strength is working from the shotgun not under center.

.......and the shotgun is being more heavily used than ever in today's NFL.

He is a rookie.

Almost unheard of for NFL rookies to be making multiple read and progressions at this type of game speed.

College kids make multiple reads, but when you are facing an NFL rush and NFL pass coverage, it really, really changes the dynamic. Not to mention, disguising coverages.

He is just going to take time, we just need to lower our expectations of what an NFL rookie can do.

Strickly using other peoples observations.

But yet all of you guys slammed Jimmy last year for the same thing, he was a rookie!

Not true. Slammed Jimmy for not pulling the trigger when his first read was there......checking down or holding on or scrambling out killing the routes when not needed or opting to throw it away.

If the play is there for Cam he will try to make it.....Cam also is more than a one read QB in the shotgun.

Of course Cam will, he is the GREATEST OF ALL TIME

I slammed Jimmy for not taking chances, not being able to hit his first progression, not throwing the ball more than 5 yards, no pocket presence or escapability, and showing no fire or leadership ability.

If he can improve these things then I will be impressed.

Making multiple reads and progressions are something that has to be learned, and are exponentially harder on the NFL level.

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
