Is wes welker > smitty

You can't compare a slot receiver(Welker) to a wideout(Smitty).

Welker catches short passes against linebackers and is reliant on YAC Steve Smith catches passes against corners and plays against linebackers, corners, and safeties.

hmmm, i totally disgree. Production is production, but I guess we can all try to swing things to make our own arguments more valid. Welker does not only play when there are 3 wr's on the field, so your logic is lacking.

Lets look at the little things before we get to the big thing. Steve Smith has a faster 40 time and a higher vertical. Welker has a step on him in the quickness drills, but isn't that what a slot receiver should have? Now to the big thing, the triple crown, end of story. What makes Smith's triple crown even more amazing, he became the first player in 21 years to lead the NFL in receptions while playing on a team that runs more than it passes. Without a Randy Moss, Wes Welker would not even be in the same picture as Steve Smith. Take away the threat of Moss going deep and you have a 800 yard receiver like in 2010, it is as simple as that.

Man, the IQ of the huddle has dipped into the "ignoramus" category.

this is an easy problem to solve..

put together a highlight reel of both players most incredible plays.. Smitty will dominate.. not only will those plays be more impressive, they will nearly double as well...

Compare Smitty's ability to Welkers..

Welker: runs great routes, incredible quickness, ability to find soft spots in coverage, didn't produce at this level without a HOF QB..

Smitty: has shown he can out leap any defender a la Megatron, runs great routes, incredible quickness, very good speed (great speed earlier in his career), longer duration of production, that production has come through more than 1 QB.. those QBs have been below average when compared to Tom Brady...

if it came down to picking up a player for your team, it'd be Smitty all day. he plays like Welker with the ability of a tall receiver..

I would also disagree if Smith was in a slot happy offense he would be unstoppable, put Welker at wideout and see what he does, wouldn't even be half as productive as Smith, Smith is more dynamic for his size and quickness.

soooo...a football team's fan thinking their WR is better than a player on another fan's team? THE NERVE!!!!!!!!!!!!

stilll...going on what's happening this year, he might have a point. the dude is absolutely ripping it up this year.

I threw that into the argument and he replied welker would if moss wasnt on the team the past few years.
meh... i don't want to admit it, but he might have a case. look at what he's doing without moos there. so far 40 recps. and 600 yards and 5 TDs. they've made him more of a focal point in their offense than they have in years.
Belichick offense>John Fox offense
true, but he's always done well even in a crowded WR corps.
Smith is the better receiver.

They use Welker better than we use Smith.

in the past few years they have used welker better than smith, but that isn't saying much. this year they are using the two in very much the same way.

Soo...im in a text chat and some NE fan who became a fan in '01, says welker is greater than smitty. Of course i laugh at his comment and the arguement escalades to him sayin welker a true number 1 and smitty just a slot wr. I laugh harder this time telling him smith rarely ever in the slot, welkers game is only the slot. Bandwagon fans are hilarious.

Whats everyones opinion on the 2

No.

Brady > Newton?

Yes.

New England Offense > Carolina Offense?

Yes.

lol.

Wes is a good receiver, but there is a reason you don't see him being mentioned by ANYONE as the best in the league, despite clobbering everyone with impressive stats...

He is a beneficiary of an efficient system. His talent doesn't come anywhere close to Smitty's.

I don't think you can compare Welker in NE with most #1 WRs on other teams.

For example....Steve Smith had Charles Woodson on him every snap of the GB game.

Welker on the other hand spends most days beating LBs or Ss on underneath routes.
