None of these are accurate.. by any stretch of the imagination..

Welker = true #1 receiver

Welker = Top 3 receiver in the league

Welker = not a slot receiver

Welker = does not have Tom Brady

Revis said it's harder for him to handle extremely quick/agile SMALL receivers.. guys like DeSean Jackson, Smitty, Welker are harder for him to cover than TO, Andre Johnson, etc..

your friend is a retarded monkey flinging poo at this argument.. step your game up, he should have been squashed the moment he opened his mouth..

You obviously don't watch the NFL on CBS then. They show about 7-8 Patriot games a year on average. I say watching half of their games is a good judge for what the guy can and can't do. Welker is spectacular at one thing....route running. He doesn't have elite speed or hands nor does he have the shiftiness or the ability to break tackles that Smitty does. He runs crisp routes and past the sticks and racks up catches on match ups against LBers. That isn't an elite receiver. Don't get me wrong Welker is GREAT at what he is asked to do but to say he is better then Steve Smith or that Revis is afraid to match up with him is comical and borderline insane. Come talk to me when Welker can take over games without an elite QB throwing him the ball like Smitty' date=' Andre, Calvin, Fitz or any of the elite receivers in the game....[/quote']

i dont have to be convince bro. sell that to the pats people saying such, i just gave their reasoning behind believing. regardless, even if you did watch 7-8 pats games a season, which you dont, u still would only see half their games. i live in nyc so i see the jets every week, and revis isnt afraid to match up with smith, please. he said he is a bigger challenge which is very different than being afraid.

First of all, how do you know what games I watch and don't watch? Second of all the Revis being afraid to match up with Welker comment was made by the OP....I was just making a comment that anybody who says that the second best DB in the game is afraid to matchup with glorified slot receiver is comical. It wasn't directed at you I just quoted you because the main point I was trying to address is that anyone whose team plays mostly 1:00 games or who has a DVR has plenty of opportunities to watch Pats games...

Soo...im in a text chat and some NE fan who became a fan in '01, says welker is greater than smitty. Of course i laugh at his comment and the arguement escalades to him sayin welker a true number 1 and smitty just a slot wr. I laugh harder this time telling him smith rarely ever in the slot, welkers game is only the slot. Bandwagon fans are hilarious.

Whats everyones opinion on the 2

At what he does Welker is better than Smitty.

At what smitty does he is better than Welker.

If Smitty played with Tom Brady he would still be the most dominant WR in the league by far.

Just sayin..

Pure speculation...

I don't think there really is a right or wrong answer in this... I mean you really can't compare to the two.

Both does different things as WR's, excel and different things, and are asked to do different things.

If you want to compare Smith to a WR I think it would be someone more like Reggie Wayne. They both do, and are asked to do similar things,

If you wanna say that then no you can't compare Smith to Wayne. For one Smith played in a run first scheme vs. the pass first offense Wayne was in. For most of his career Smith had to single handedly take over games, for most of his career Wayne was number 2 behind Harrison Don't even need to compare their QBs. So that is no better a comparision than Smith and Welker

Yea... I'm only talking from a playing style stand point. My point was Welker will never be asked to do was smith does, and Smith to welker. But I think if Smith was in Indy he would perform Reggie's role, and the same for Reggie.

Can't really compare the two as they are very different in style, skillset, supporting cast, scheme and how they are used.

I will say this though, when Welker is at the top of his game he is that absolute best at what he does. He's the gold standard for slot receivers. I've seen games where he is constantly double teamed but yet still gets open practically every play, almost unguardable when he's playing his best.

But Smith wants to do what Welker does. Smith has said he wants to be a slot receiver and let the younger guys take over the outside, so he may at some point be asked to do what Welker does.

Yea, at some point in time he may transition to a new role, then we'll see how he will do in the situation.
