ESPN Talking Points

Just wait. Once these so-called experts see that the Panthers can score a touchdown in the preseason, they will change their tune. Until then, we are the same team that finished DFL a year ago, added no significant veterans we didn't already have on the roster, and throw in a rookie QB who has yet to prove himself at this level.

Again, shouldn't look at this through too narrow a lens. We all know that new coaches/new scheme plus our talent should equal much better results. Idiot analysts see a 2-14 team that kept its core intact, plus added a rookie QB to compete as the starter.

But the one thing that really held us back last year is now in Denver and they slurp Fox every time they talk about the Broncos. They just won't admit it was Fox not the team.

To be fair it doesn't make them idiots that they see this as a negative. We only see it as a positive because we are us. We believe in the Matt Ryan Mike Smith stories, even though they are uncommon.

We didn't add anyone of real value, we didn't fix two of our biggest needs at DL and Corner, we didn't really add any new weapons for our young QB on the outside, unless you count Legadu, we have a new scheme on offense and defense to learn without mini camp and other offseason workouts, we have a project QB who will have to adjust his game to succeed in the NFL competing with the worst starting QB in the history of the NFL.

It's not hard to see how they come to the conclusion that we suck. We see it differently of course, but it could go either way.

I think we'll be improved with new scheme on offense, but might be limited by our QBs until they grow a bit more. Not worst in the league, but not playoff bound either.

You expect us to win the superbowl?

Don't call Vegas, call me. I want us to do well but I'll take free money everyday of the week and twice on Wednesdays.

No, I was just being an ass.

My original prediction was at least 7 wins for us. Rivera predicts 10 or more, and that sounds very possible to me.

So, I wouldn't rule out us making a run into the playoffs and shocking everyone, but I don't think it's likely that we'll do it this year while Cam is still learning and Clausen may be playing for who knows how long.

I was just saying, Bayless' claim that we have the worst roster in the league is wrong - you can bet on that, if there was a way to, because he's an idiot.

I don't disagree, I just wanted to make sure you weren't betting on us winning the superbowl.

It seems like there is one of these threads every 3-4 days.

Blame Jerry for not putting a winning product on the field the last 15 years and ESPN would love us.

They have a lot to cover and it's stupid to expect them to know as much about our team as we do.

I am not a big enough of a homer to think we are playoff bound, but we are not the worst team in the league.

Good point - he's a player's coach that is well-liked and respected by the media. They (media) probably still think he got a raw deal here, and that his excellence will follow him to Denver, leaving us in worse shape than last year.

This is such a misguided approach - I can't believe that no one can see the potential with the talent on this team combined with a hard-nosed defensive specialist like Rivera, plus a totally revamped offense under Chud.

I just hope we can hold our own in the trenches - our line play has to be top notch to make this new offense work.

Don't blame the FO at all, they had nothing to do with it.

Sure the FO did....they choose to put Fox + a team Fox prepping for post Fox together for one final season instead of legimately starting the rebuilding process like they should of.

How many coaches have an entire draft where what they (as in Fox) do isn't factored in to who is selected. Also the standard offseason roster moves.

FO doesn't get to pin it all on Fox. They didn't want Fox to have a roster they wanted....he wanted him to audition talent for the next coach.

uh, what? Fox didn't care and it showed. In bad injury filled years he was still able to inspire the team to almost make the playoffs a couple of times. He was lame duck coach and check out in October.

Says who though? On paper we didn't improve our roster and we play in the toughest division in football.

Jimmy Clausen is torching our corners in camp and our DLine is subpar at best. What is Ryan and Brees going to do to them?

We have the toughest schedule in the league on paper and we are rebuilding.

Not far fetched to think we only win 3 games next year if you aren't as focused in on the Panthers everyday activities as we are here.

I agree with you - they see a team on paper closely resembling last years team. That's fair. But to be optimistic as a fan, trying not to get caught up in homerism, I have to believe in the new staff, the new schemes, keeping guys healthy, and that we will be able to get the defense off the field after third downs. Oh, and must believe in Cam - that as a rookie, he can make our offense greater than the sum of its parts.

I disagree. I think the FO handcuffed him, took control of the team and depth chart, and tried to ruin Fox in the process.
