Panthers Offense Explained....

That's true about losing him to the practice squad/outside team but it's hard for me to imagine him making the main roster. Even if we keep 6 WRs (Smith, Gettis, Naanee, Lafell, Edwards) it'll be tough for him to make the final roster. He'll be competing with Clowney, Wright, and Guy for that final spot if we keep 6. I guess it's a risk we have to take

reading that mid to long range throws are the basis makes you think about Clausen?

On top of Clausen not be willing or able to make them thus far....it also requires a QB to make them from in the pocket.

Will probably lean towards the West Coast, not Air Coryell if Clausen would start. And if Clausen is in that system he could do well.

Clausen may have the 10 yard passes down, but I still can't get over the fact that he can't see over the line and has a low release... 10 yards or 50 yards doesn't do any good if the DT's knock the ball down.

Good read.

Give him a year with Shula.

A few things to note here...

Mike Shanahan runs an offensive system that would best suit Clausen

The Redskins are heading into the season with John Beck and Rex Grossman as their QBs

Skins have 3 extra future draft picks now after trading McNabb and Haynesworth

They have a history of making (bad) trades including QBs

Just a thought....

This is the antithesis of Foxball, and this fact excites me alone. Finally an offense that is fitting with the times. I just hope that the Double Rs and Chud can adjust to the game at hand as necessary. John Fox seemingly lost that ability arguably three seasons ago.

I hate to break it to you guys. But, I think we are going to run the ball a hell of a lot more than most of you think.

We will ride the running game....the reason that DWill was re-signed.

Rex Grossman > Jimmy Clausen, sorry.

Jimmy isn't getting traded anytime soon, odds are he's kept as an above average backup with a decent contract until his contract runs out.

IMO, our offense is going to look much more like the one that Joe Gibbs ran in Washington than the one that Coryell ran in San Diego, at least for the first couple of years. And I am ok with that.

If the coaches can teach Cam to check the ball down when he should, he will be very good.

Right now.....JC checks everything down....Cam checks nothing down.

If we could combine the two into one mega QB, we would be set.

If I had a quarter for every time I said that about my dating life. :sigh:

    • Agreed on the last part. They can’t afford to lose all these games with Martin and Perets.
    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
