Let's assume Jimmy Clausen has a successful season as starter for the Panthers in

He's not a middle round guy, he's our first pick. Pay-stub or not, he's the slated future of this franchise. Not Jimmy.

I'd love to see Jimmy blow it up, but the likelihood of such an event happening is like 1/1000.

You have to admit the Panthers hand was kind of forced. If you're 2-14 you need the excitement and hope a QB can bring along with the potential impact. A guy like Peterson is great but won't have much of an impact for a 2-14 squad.

Okay, but there is no way for this to happen. Clausen checks down to the safe throw too much to succeed in this league. This is not a happen he is going to ever break. He's never going to be the type to let loose and just start slinging. His underneath throw nature will doom him in this league.

I'm almost positive that Jerry didn't tell his first year, brand new coach to draft a QB just to get some butts in his seats.

He intended on drafting a franchise guy, which he did.

2011. Carolina wins 6-8 games, Jimmy puts up average to above average numbers, the team rallies around him, etc. With the lowered rookie salary numbers does Cam become expendable?

The only way this scenario plays out is if Cam fails somewhere along the line. No one, probably including Jimmy himself, is expecting Clausen to become a great QB like Manning, Brady, Rodgers or Brees. On the other hand, most think Cam has the potential to be great if he continues to develop.

Cam is going to get a long look at some point. How he performs will determine what happens long-term, much more than what JC does.
