I feel Rivera is doing the right thing. Give Clausen a chance.

Many complained how unfair it was to draft Cam because Clausen was just drafted last and was a victim of bad coaching and not having the right arsenal of players around. He will now have the same coach and the same arsenal as Cam. Let him go out and do his thing.

IMO, I feel this system more suit Cam style of playing than Clausen but he cannot be just relegated to the back of the bus, so to speak. And at least if you do decide to trade him later, hopefully his performance can go a long way to getting a good trade for him if Cam does turn out to be your future.

Guys I started a thread well before any announcements were made stating that this game was Clausen's superbowl. It is. It will define the trajectory of his career...

In the order of unlikelyness....

Scenario 1: He plays lights out, and is traded next week to the Redskins, Bears, Seahawks, etc.

Scenario 2: He plays ok but consistent, lives to fight another day in the preseason battle with Cam.

Scenario 3: He plays terrible... fumbles, checks down, and throws 5 yard pick sixes.... he's made his own bed and becomes a career backup.

Some think it's unfair to throw him to the G-men's Defense... not me. I actually applaud Rivera for naming him the starter. He didn't have to do that. It's a confidence booster for Jimmy and a cool thing to do with little downside to the coach.

Also... I agree with some that boo-ing is part of the game. It's trailer trash, and anyone who does it challenges the laws of evolution.. but it has always been part of the game. Clausen right or wrong is in a hole that he has to dig himself out of... but the payoff is huge if he can pull it off.

this thread is evil. I can only think of the scenarios we will boo/cheer for Clausen for all the wrong reasons. Dude is being feed to the wolves real quick. CRA, I usually agree with you, and I think you are a good poster, but I think you are way off on this one.

I understand that it is your right since you pay for tickets to boo someone, but I just don't see the point in it. If he screws up, he knows he screwed up, booing is so counter productive. I just don't know what satisfaction booers get from it.

He doesn't know anything. JC proved it last year. Tell him early, tell him often, tell him loudly. I hope he does well, but cannot imagine after watching JC almost all last year. He was more than pathetic.

Some of us pay money to watch a performance supposedly by pro athletes; year end, year out. Game in, Game out. Others, watch on TV at home courtesy of the people who pay to go.

The perspective is quite different when one pays for tickets, pays for gas, drives anywhere from 1 to 4 hrs one way to see the pathetic example that JR put on the field last year.

The boos I heard, and I myself booed was directed at JR and Fox. No matter what lipstick was put on that pig of product last year, it was a pig and JR knew it and that, is one of the reasons Newton is here, butts in the seats. Those of you who love the Panthers so, but, not enough to pay for PSLs, and some you can get for cheap, need to buy single game tickets and show up.

Frankly, JR should be glad for the boos because that means people still care about what they see. It's when those boos turn into apathy and empty seats result that should worry everyone.

It's pro football, not bridge. If a player doesn't want to get booed, produce.

I'd say someone paid $2million a year should be able to complete a pass now and again.

I think it is unfair to Jimmy he was drafted for a neither Fox or Rivera....that does suck for him. But reality remains, neither Fox nor Rivera wanted him and he isn't the type QB either would select to run their offenses.

Jimmy Clausen's career here is pretty much already over (Rivera and company are just going through the routine of letting Cam climb the depth chart).......which is an unfortunate. Half of making it into this league is getting into a scenario where you fit. Jimmy started his career off in a hole.......and that isn't Jimmy's, Fox's, or Rivera's fault.
