Jimmy Will Start vs Giants

So what evidence do you have that Rivera thinks Cam "isn't ready to start"?

If you think Jimmy starting against the Giants is proof, then your evaluation of me as a fugtard is not only ironic, but hypocritical.

I am not making any statements about what Rivera will do....we are leaving that to the likes of you.

I said that Jimmy is starting against the Giants because Rivera said he was starting both this preseason.

I think it is likely that Cam gets the ultimate nod for the regular season, but am smart enough to accept that I don't "Know" that he will.

You are the one saying that it is an obligatory thing.....all I said is not so fast there Junior.

But see... here's the disconnect...

You're looking at this from a pure "skill" evaluation stand point. You're saying Rivera is evaluating Clausen vs. Newton.

What you're not considering is the precedent and politics of coaching.

He's already evaluated Jimmy. He evaluated him immediately upon taking the Head Coach position. This is why we didn't go after Dareus or PP7, or even trade down to get multiple picks in the 1st round. And instead, a Defense guy used his #1 pick overall on a QB.

But this doesn't mean Jimmy isn't given a "shot", and he probably wants to make Newton sweat a little to keep his fire hot going into the regular season.

Cam is the future, but Clausen may be more ready to play. There is a distinct possibility that Cam is not really ready yet at the start of the season and doesn't take over until a few games in. We'll have more of an idea of that once the preseason gets going.

I don't know which is worst, booing your own QB or screaming the name of another team's QB while yours is on the field practicing.

Yep, so much for supporting your own..lol

Some of us pay money to watch a performance supposedly by pro athletes; year end, year out. Game in, Game out. Others, watch on TV at home courtesy of the people who pay to go.

The perspective is quite different when one pays for tickets, pays for gas, drives anywhere from 1 to 4 hrs one way to see the pathetic example that JR put on the field last year.

The boos I heard, and I myself booed was directed at JR and Fox. No matter what lipstick was put on that pig of product last year, it was a pig and JR knew it and that, is one of the reasons Newton is here, butts in the seats. Those of you who love the Panthers so, but, not enough to pay for PSLs, and some you can get for cheap, need to buy single game tickets and show up.

Frankly, JR should be glad for the boos because that means people still care about what they see. It's when those boos turn into apathy and empty seats result that should worry everyone.

It's pro football, not bridge. If a player doesn't want to get booed, produce.

I'd say someone paid $2million a year should be able to complete a pass now and again.

lol "More Ready"

haha you know what I mean - hopefully it isn't the case, but it is a distinct possibility that Cam may be further behind than some would really hope. Frankly, I don't need him to come out and light it up as soon as possible - I've seen his flashes in camp and read about them, now I want to make sure he continues to work on getting our offense down and working on consistency. It may prove that practice is a better place for that than games, but who knows.

I'm no coach, but I can see there is a possibility where Jimmy starts the season, and I think that if they were really already decided Cam was going to start they wouldn't waste the first team reps on Jimmy in preseason games.

The boos I heard, and I myself booed was directed at JR and Fox.

most of the discussion about boos lately has been the people booing Jimmy during training camp... I understand why people boo'd last year, but I think we should let him take the field and see how he does before we send out the boo birds.

To add to what others have said, I think protecting Newton is a big factor in the decision this week and going forward.

We all know Newton is the future starting QB. Like it or not, it is a given. But the worst thing that could happen is to name Cam the starter before he is ready, and then have to pull him after a few games.

I want the Newton-era to start asap like many others, but we just need to be a little patient.

I don't prefer this, but I see the reasoning behind it.

I agree with what Joat and BB said on the first page... May as well let Jimmy show his full arsenal of checkdowns and then let Cam take over.

My only thing is, I hope that they let Cam play this first game some with the 1's as well, regardless of what Jimmy does.

I agree with you to a point. If the QB is limited by what he was given and he is trying then he shouldn't be booed. If the QB shows up and act like simply being there is all he needs to do, then boo till your heart's content.
