Panthers should have traded Sutton....

As has been mentioned, they still can.

Trades of players like Sutton tend to happen around the time of final cuts when teams are hammering together their final rosters. If you look back at the Panthers offseason history, you'll find they've done a deal or two within that time frame.

My personal take on Sutton: Yes he can be pretty good, but it seems like he gets nicked up just about every time he sees any significant action. Right now he's a number four, which means even if he stays he's inactive on game day anyway (barring injury). No offense to him, but I could just as easily see keeping Josh Vaughan in that role.

the purpose of the thread and what it actually said was Sutton or Goodson. If Sutton has stepped up as everyone says, maybe we could trade him or keep him and trade Goodson. Goodson soon to be gone anyway. Just letting guys walk away for nothing seems to be our MO.

Would be good to get a 5th or 6th round pick out of the deal

it is a passing league where RBs no longer carry the value to teams as they did years ago.....much less those of Suttons caliber.

Doubtful we could trade him for someone worthy of seeing much time on the field.

Teams inquired about Sut via trade last year. The guy is a baller buried on the Panthers depth chart. He is one of the many of reasons why DeAngelo should have walked. I actually think Sut has more value to the team than does Goodson. Sut doesn't put the ball on the carpet, can play some FB, pass block, and return kicks.

i agree that sutton gives you more value , goodson just has more homerun ability which is what most people are looking at.

and the reason he probably wasn't traded is Carolina couldn't get anything worthwhile from it.......

Greenbay was offering a pick. The only reason Carolina would have taken the deal is if they planned on cutting Sutton anyways and just wanted to get a draft pick out of the process. The compensation would have been a 6th or 7th rounder.

What pick was GB offering? Aren't they the ones who we picked him up from orginally?

A 6th-7th rounder isn't worth RB depth if you are a ground and pound team....Sutton as depth is more likely to see the field on a running team than whoever was drafted in the 7th round.

Yes, Greenbay released Sut thinking they could stash him on the practice squad. The trade only made sense if you were going to cut Sut anyways. So I figure Greenbay was offering a 7th rounder and that's it. The point is, people outside of Carolina realize that Sut is a baller.
