8/9 1030 Practice Thread

You never said it, but the way you act that LaFell has made this team when he hasn't done squat in camp and these guys are outperforming him implies that you think it's a given he gets the job, regardless of camp.

Rivera is already on record saying they haven't impressed so I wouldn't be so sure that he's ahead of the other guys. Clowney had a great scrimmage and some good last few days. Armanti has been tearing it up all camp, plus the WC, plus ST, he should be a lock.

I have not been to any TC events (except FF) so I can't comment on who or what has been going on from personal experience. I have to take what is being said. To be fair, I have heard what Rivera said and you are right about that.

But based on my knowledge of situation, Brandon Lafell is a experienced starter who was third on the team in receptions and yardage last season.

Armanti Edwards has never caught a pass in the NFL.

David Clowney is a habitual 4th string/PS player who has 6 catches as a Panther.

Why should I not buy into Armanti because he's in a controlled environment? What does that even mean? Is he playing on a field by himself without defenders? Is no one guarding him? Why is his situation different than LaFell's?

TC is a controlled environment. For example when they run 7 on 7, or continue to run plays inside the twenty. And a lot of the time they aren't even tackling....or when they practice running the same plays over and over again...eventually he'll break one off, when there is no fear of Ray Lewis or Troy Polamalu lurking behind him.

And to answer your ? about is no one guarding him...He isn't being covered on every play. From the people I've talked to, and the pictures/videos I've seen of him making plays, most have been when he is just running routes with no threat of physical contact.

Wallace Wright was on IR last year or he would have been on the team. He's an excellent gunner.

So I hear. We we're fine with out him last year.

Don't get me wrong dude I hope everyone steps up and plays well.

Carry on.

Do you have a response to the post?

Here you go, sweetheart.

The Panthers may keep six receivers, and if we do I'm hoping they're Smith/Gettis/Edwards/Naanee/LaFell/Wright, though I hope Adams gets on the practice squad along with Pilares. Pilares would have made it but there's no point giving a spot to a guy unless he earns it and right now he's going to have his work cut out for him when it comes to that.

Based on the collection of guys, and the obvious attention the passing attack has received, I think it's a fair assessment that the Cats could indeed keep six wide outs.

1. Lafell

2. Smith

3. Gettis

4. Legedu

5. Armanti

and now the tricky part: Pilares, Clowney, or Wright.

TRD thinks Wright is an asset b/c of his ST abilities but if I had to pick, the leader in the clubhouse is Clowney.

I'd bet a dollar that Pilares magically winds up on the Practice Squad or IR, don't see him making the 53 yet.

I don't know who the 6th would be.

IR sounds like a better bet b/c I think someone would claim him if we tried to sneak him on to the PS.

I recall after drafting him that I said I'd be surprised if he played a down for us this year and damnnnn did I get flamed.

Hmmmmmmm

I like how it is only mentioned that Armanti's success is due to a controlled environment when every other player is in the same controlled environment and might be having less success

Inb4 strong first post

I also should add that Armanti's success this off season could be contributed to him playing for a job.

I must say I am impressed with all the fan support AE is having this off season, seeing how a lot of these same people said he couldn't make it in the CFL two months ago.

Some of us thought AE was a superb athlete but would need time to become a bonafide WR, but I think he has the physical tools and the drive to be a very, very good WR for us.

I didn't have a problem with the trade when it happened based on potential. I think he'll be a real weapon especially now that he seems to have more of a WR mindset and the endurance to match it.

I'm pulling for the guy, don't get me wrong. I want him to succeed here.

He's practically a lock to make the team the next four years based on the bounty that Marty gave up to get him. We all know how Marty is, he will go down with the ship.

Look how long they gave Eric Shelton, Dwayne Jarrett, etc.

Those were under Fox, the release of Kasay makes me think Rivera has more say than Fox did in those matters. However, he is guaranteed a spot this year and probably next.

No way Pilares gets drafted by us, and doesn't make the team. They at least give him some time to adjust to the NFL.

And Armanti isn't going anywhere. The potential is just too great to let go. I know he was originally a project WR, but with his drive this offseason, what he's doing currently, and his ability to actually make throws in Wildcat form, there is no way he gets let go.
